I am in the process of buidling some micro niche blogs. But before I purchase any domain names I want to know if .info extensions will work good for SEO purposes? Is it better to just stick with .com, .net or .org's?

Honestly, I seldom see .info's on the top results.. considering that this is the cheapest domain available most probably there are way more of these than .com's etc. The fact that even if that is the case it's still pretty seldom to see them in the top of the serps, to me is an indication that it doesn't give much bearing in your SEO effort. Though I'm not 100% sure about that, and it's just my opinion because I once got the first position in Google for "best blogging tips" and the url and site I used was just a subdomain of weebly. Maybe you could test it out by building a keyworded .info url wordpress blog with just two pages of content in a non-competitive niche. If you could rank in the first result like George brown in using his Google Sniper tactics then I guess it helps.. all the best, |

I don't think that the extention matters for SEO. I have seen .info sites come up on the first page of google many times. Just my opinion

Just realize many are starting to block .info domain names including twitter... Your domain ext does not matter for SEO but for the use of it just be aware that some are blocking it due to spammers. Some companies petitioned ICANN to allow them to block the entire ext from their sites and ICANN approved it ... James |

I just go for .COM, .NET, and .ORG. I stay away with .INFO, just my personal preference.

I don't think the extension of a domain is really that important. The content and regularity that you add it is far more important. As you can see in the list below it is seventh on the list of most used. Top 10 global domain name extension list The ten largest domain extensions unite a whopping 150 million registrations: .COM: 82.01 million .DE (Germany): 13.05 million .CN (China): 12.55 million .NET: 12.42 million .UK (United Kingdom): 7.83 million .ORG: 7.79 million .INFO: 5.24 million .NL (Netherlands): 3.5 million .EU (European Union): 2.98 million .RU (Russia): 2.31 million Source: DomainesInfo Statistiques Q |

Even co.cc extension can rank higher on google if you have a good content and promoted well.. It has nothing to do with extensions...

Yes, I thinks .info extension is still good if there is not available for .com .net .org, as in my experience there is many site with .info extension can get 1st rank in google.

My choice will not be .info as i have my friend who tried same domain name with different extension and checked out for the results. .com and .net did well as they creeped into google's first page in a shorter span. I didn't mentioned .org because they usually refer to Non-profit organizations.

So, to get back to the original question, there is no SEO problem with .info domains so far as Google is concerned. As with any other domain name, SEO is largely a matter of the quality and quantity of your incoming links. There is, however, a perception problem against them and a number of other TLD's based on lazy stupidity. Long term, I expect that we will see more domains extensions, including .info's, become more common and accepted due to the shortage of shorter generic and brandable .com names. And, also remember that long term the cost of a .info rises after the first year to the same price roughly as .coms.

There's nothing like a good example... Here's a brand new .info site, Move Your Money, registered on Christmas Eve. It currently has about 8000 links. Yes, folks, it has gotten that many links in about 2 weeks time, less if you consider that the site wasn't live right away. Now, do you really think this site is going to get any penalty for being a .info or getting links 'too fast'? Hint: Look at it's backlinks and you'll learn something about the importance of authority links. |

never had any issues ranking with .info sites... G is a little strict towards .info but some of my websites are still on page 1 in G and almost all of them get ranked high in Bingo... from my personal experience it has nothing to do with extensions, it's all about competition, links from authority websites and basic seo... i personally feel soon .info will become well accepted extension in the eyes of G.. those who snapped exact keyword terms will get handsome returns...

For a more complete examination you can use a program like SEOElite but that will cost some money. Basically, the site was started by Huffington Post and has links from several major news sites as well as authority financial sites and left-of-center political sites.

.com domains are the best for SEO ranking. They beat all the other ones in organic ranking, so I highly recommed you go with this one. The guys at SEOmoz.org (don't ask me why they have .org extension) wrote an article about it that I can't find now... but maybe you.

| The only time I use .info's any more is for forwarding. They simply don't seem to do NEARLY as well in the SE's as .com, .net's, and .orgs.

Coming to me, i would prefer " .com or .net or .org " but " .info " is also not a bad extension as they are .info domains with PR4 too.

That said I have come to hate .info : because they are cheap, a lot of people are using them for bogus spammy site. But for SEO purposes, nope, not a difference i have observed.

I had a .info website in position 1 for a term that had a global search volume of 74,000 a month and over a million competing pages. But it also had like 150 indexed pages and around 300 links built to the domain and then more links built to those links. But then I lost it a couple of days ago after adding a CPA pop-up offer. In short, it is possible to get .infos to #1 in Google. But it may have taken much less effort to bring a TLD to #1? I wouldn't know! |

I think extensions (like .com,.net,.info) doesn't matter for SEO. This is my point of view.

Same here, I have found that it's easier to rank with .com, .net or .org, so if those tld's are available for the keyword you are targeting, get them.

The extension is not really one of the crucial factors here. The content is. It's on-page optimization is. The amount of quality, highly relevant backlinks to the site is. It's definitely possible to have a highly ranked .info site. Because I've seen it with my own eyes. The same thing also applies to .com and other extension. Jag |
