Will backlinks to my youtube video have any effect?

I am aware of the powerful effect backlinking can have to articles and blogs- but does backlinking to youtube video have any effect?

It should give it more relevance to Google's search engine, but I'm not sure what it does to YouTube's ranking of it.

The other factor, backlinking will give you one more thing, added traffic to the video from the links. If the video is good and is converting people into your buying funnel, I'd include it in your normal routine of backlinking any other type of content. At least to the level of social bookmarking it.

I dont think backlinks help you organic YouTube ranking what so ever.

Keep in mind that when people dont neccessarily need to go to youtube to find your youtube video. In this case backlinks will definately help you.

Always just ensure that you have keyword rich headings and descriptions and you can't go wrong!

If you are backlinking to the url of the video on youtube,
try something else.

If you are backlinking to a website that has the youtube
video embedded, that's a better story.

Remember, people searching for (youtube) videos in most cases do it
on youtube.com, not in google.com. In this case, backlinks to
the youtube url would make no difference.

While I agree that many folks do their searching for youtube videos on youtube, but according to Google there are 923 million searches per month that include youtube in the keyword phrase.

Personally, I always do my initial search for youtube videos on Google, it works quite well and obviously there are many other folks doing the same thing. According to Google data they have over 1.1 billion searches each month on the search network that they return youtube video listings in the results. Thats billion with a "B" and that's monthly as in 30 days. Seems like too big a number to simply dismiss, at least for me, I guess your business model can't waste time on such paltry search volume numbers.

If your video is popular enough it usually shows up on the first or second page of google. Don't believe backlinking helps for youtube.

Backlinks help your videos in the search engines but not in you tube. SO if you have a video that you want to appear in The SERPs of google for a certain keyword, then apart from writing an appropriate title, etc, backlinks do help

But on you tube itself it still remains relevance and number of views that counts

Now how youtube determines relevance, I honestly don't know. I have a few videos in you tube that are doing well but I honestly cannot take any credit for that

If you want better ranking at Youtube itself, you'll have to get some views, comments and rankings for your video. You can by the way buy all of the above or do it yourself.

backlink do really have an effect on your youtube videos. But apart from social bookmarking, i don't know how to get that backlinks. Top 1 videos in my niche has approximately 300 backlinks. Can someone help me here?

I think those backlinks really improve on your traffic to the site,so i cant rule them oout altogether in case of youtubes as some have suggested!

I don't think it ll effect on your you tube video ranking.You can say in case of you tube,you need more views and reviews from visitors and that ll help your you tube video to get high rank in SE.To get more number of views and reviews you need to promote your you tube video in a proper manner.

Yes, it definitely helps. You can use it to get you keyword related video to the first page of google pretty easily. I just blast a load of social bookmarking links from magic submitter at the video url and make the vid title and description contain the keywords I'm targetting and it works every time.

You set up a simple animoto presentation which simply leads the customer somewhere else such as your money site or a squeeze page for instance.

You can use RSS and social bookmarking to build backlinks to your video.

This simply isn't true I'm afraid.

I'm ranked #2 in youtube and #1 on google for a term that receives 30,000 monthly (exact) in youtube keyword tool.

All I did was backlink the URL, the vid had less than 500 views when i started doing this and 1 or 2 embeds.

I've been keeping it to myself but I think it's fairly common knowledge these days, I've seen it in a few different WSO's etc...

For someone who talks of the "science" of SEO you sure say a lot of stuff with authority that isn't backed up by any fact.

Could you elaborate on how? I've made around 180 vids. Am trying to get them ranked in Google. Have been trying to submit the urls for the individual pages to rss directories to get back links. Don't know if I'm wasting my time. Could do with trying out that method.

While this does not directly answer your question, do you have keywords in your title, description and tags? This is a very basic part that most youtube videos lack. Then backlink them.

Backlinks DO help get you ranked higher in you tube AND google.
I've taken a video, a very crappy video, and drove backlinks to it. In less than 2 months, I was ranked on the 1st page of google AND youtube for 3 keywords that had hundreds of thousands of views each month. Not 1, but 3. I purposely was optimizing for these 3 keywords in my backlinking.

The social media idea was awesome. Google is adding their 1+ component which will factor social media into the algorithm. A combination of all of these will be essential as well as different types of backlinks, not just rss directories. But press releases, article marketing, profile linking, video sites, bookmarking, blog commenting, etc. You get the point :-)
