For the past 4 days or so my page has been bumping to page 21, to page 14, to 16, to 14, to 17, and now on 18... How long before I can expect to really see where I'm ranking? Ty guys, - Brandon |

In my experience it really depends on age and backlinks - so it's really hard to determine until further down the road. Granted, you can still "dance" even when you are on a page for weeks. jared |

The google dance used to last a couple of days. Now it takes minutes at most. Seeing fluctuating rankings these would NOT be what was commonly referred to as the "dance" in the past, which hasn't taken place in at least 2-3 years.

If you have a decent site, a dance typically lasts 1 week.

It really depends. Some sites stabilize quickly while others can remain in fluctuation for months.

The google dance lasts longer for newer sites, so just be patient and keep building quality anchor text links!

Unlike in the past where it happened at the end of the month, the "dance" is happening continuously across the Internet but the effect on your individual site can vary. Younger sites bounce around more than older sites and will settle down within 30 days unless you are continuously doing massive SEO activity. |

| It's going to last forever seriously. Your SE rankings are not set by your site alone but by every other page that has any relevance to the same keyword you have. As other sites dance, it will effect your site. As your site dances around, it effects all of the others. (effect... or affect... I can never keep them straight) While it is possible to reach a somewhat stable position the truth of that matter is SE rankings are always fluid and depending on the competition or popularity of your keyword you could bounce around forever. Just focus on keeping your bouncing and dancing to the first page. Everything else is in the hands of the almighty google. |

It's been my experience that your site will settle down AFTER you stop SEO'ing the crap out of it. Every time I've ever engaged in backlinking campaigns my sites have bounced all over the place. If I stop for a month or so they find a good place to rest and its always better then when I started. The only exception I've seen to this is when I was ranked 1st for one of my keywords for a number of weeks. One day I saw it slip so I immediately added content to my site, built a few links to my new content and it jumped back into position within two days. Its been stable since then and that was a little over 2 months ago. |

Alright because my site just keeps slipping down, down, down at a steady rate... which seems very odd. I'll just keep building my links for a few weeks then let it lie and see what happens

Make sure to vary your link sources if you want a long term ranking. For example, if all your doing is building profile page backlinks and not much else, your days are numbered. Just mix it up with articles, directories, relevant blog commenting, video submission, try and do a few guest posts on niche related blogs, and then start hitting the profile backlinks hard.

What I've done so far is submit to 9 high pr directories by hand, 200 through software, make 5 web 2.0 properties, submit to free traffic system for blog dripping, social bookmark the site to 20 high PR sites, and build 50 profile links from paul's packets.

I think the Google Dance will last forever, haha. There are things like personalized search, google can track in what region you are etc etc . These elements all have an enormous impact on your rankings. The big differences might also be explained through your personalized search. This means that when you arelogged in into GMail or analytics and in the same browser you do a search for your rankings, the mere fact that you are logged in influences your rankings for your site. To avoid this I would make use of the google ad preview tool. |

I guess I'm most concerned about the "doing it well" part. As in, are spun articles good enough for building links from my web 2.0 properties or is that even helping me? That sort of thing.

One more thing to note, when starting out with a new website, make sure to be deep linking to keyword relevant pages. Don't just go all out to your homepage. It usually takes me about 2 months to finally settle down on page one. Just keep your link velocity consistent for about a month and make sure to maintain link building after you have settled down on the first page. |

To my experience, it can be few months. Just remember, your site will be changing everyday or every week as you try to tweak your content, create backlinks and so forth. At this time, big G is not sure where to position the site.

From my own experience it lasts about 5 days before it returns to the norm. But this is for an aged site. If it is really new site, you could get the Google sandbox which may last much longer - weeks to about 2 months.

The dance has no set length. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about plain and simple. You have to realize, you're trying to rank a site, and other people are. Google is trying to see where everyone for that keyword fits best. You always have other people coming in and trying to get ranked, and Google is always trying to see where people fit. Now, generally, the dance lasts about 1-3 months; you can be stable for a week or two and then suddenly start dancing around - that's actually the norm, not an exception, regardless of what people tell you. During that time, Google is simply trying to figure out what your value is, what the traffic you bring is worth, compared to the other sites. You also have competitors trying to rank for the same keyword, and that makes things really goofy. Don't worry about the dance, just do your thing, and make sure you do it for more than three months or so, and outrun the competitors over the long run, rather than worrying about the existing competition. Remember, the existing sites aren't necessarily staying static, so your goal should be to blow past them, not just barely edge them out. |

A quick addendum to what I just posted: you can't judge anything with the SEs in under a month. If you try to look at day to day, or even week to week, you're going to end up beating your head against the wall. Don't even check stats until the first of the month - every month. Day to day and week to week will just make you want to hang yourself out of frustration.

Well as a seo expert, I think this totally varies on how aggressive you are with your backlinking plus how often you are updating your site. Few people just create websites and just leave them and they will stop dancing within couple of days because you are not doing any thing to it for the spiders to crawl it again and again and make them decide where to place your site after all of those backlinkings and posts. So if you keep on building backlinks and keep posting regularly your website will keep on moving around and will come to the top for the specific keyword you are optimizing it for and then can stay on the top for years to come, if you have done a decent seo job on it. I created a blog the other day and i'm doing constant backlinking for it, and its still jumping around all over the search engine and its been already a month or so. |
