Default Removing a Page for a Temporary Period?

I need to remove a page from my site but only temporary. I know if I remove it that it can/will cause problems if not done correctly. There is no alternative page I wish it to be directed to either. I would be grateful to learn how I temporaily remove this page without messing my site up in the SERPS.

Thanks All.

Hi Intrepreneur,

The proper way to do this is to create a new page with a note the reads something like: "The page you requested is temporarily unavailable."

You can then do a 302 Temporary Redirect to this placeholder page. You must use a placeholder page to prevent the search engines from dropping your page from their index. Keep in mind that this will only work on a temporary basis, after about 30 days they will drop it anyway if you don't remove the 302 Redirect.

Check how frequently your page is crawled by the Search Engines that matter. It's very possible to take pages offline and work on them and put them back online without the Search Engines every knowing because the page doesn't get crawled while it's down.

And Google crawls and ranks PAGES not sites. So if you are worried about a single page ruining your SITE RANK you have an incorrect view of ranking.

Hmm this site is crawled often, as in less than every hour.
