Hi First, this is not really my site. But it's a site I developed for a company. I did it exactly as they wanted. They haven't been caring about SEO, well they care but only if I do it for free, which I'm not going to do... okay the guy at the company called me today and said they have some problems with google, cause when searching in google for the main keyword their site is ranked #1. But the other pages on the first page of google says that their product is a scam or other people complaining they don't hear any news from the company etc... The company guy suggested to created new pages on the site and place news and articles on the pages. Then get these pages to rank on the other positions on page 1 - Moving negative pages to page 2. But getting newly created pages quickly on page 1 can take lot of time, involving lot of backlinking activity. Strange but I checked in Yahoo Site Explorer and their site have only 10 backlinks and still is on top of google. And even if I manage to get these new pages inside page 1, google can see them to be related to the top domain and hide them under the top domain.... Maybe instead of new pages, what about using ezinearticles or something like that. Or create a new domain... maybe they instead of new pages in the same domain should create a blog. They have set a limit on 100 hours each month which they will pay for, so if I should do this then I must be able to do for less than 100 hours each month... Their main website isn't optimizied, but still rank #1. Have main keyword in domain name. How would you go about solve this problem? |

Definitely something that could take a little time. Posting on some hub sites like ezine or hubpages or squidoo or yahoo answers could help. You might want to go so far as creating a new domain on a new ip with some content, and then submit to directories. We grabbed the #2 spot for a company that way. The company already had #1.

I would submit that some things just might be out of your hands. First, even if you were to solve the problem that the company wants you to solve, that does not mean other people will not start posting new negative opinions about your client and your client's product. In other words, the proposed solution is assuming that no more negative information will be written or available on google. That is not the case. The company itself needs to find out what it has done to generate such negative publicity and FIX IT. Second, as far as what you can do within your allotted 100 hours: 1. This may not be in your job description, but contact the negative sources and see what can be done for them to remove the offending material themselves. Sometimes the easiest (and least obvious) is to confront the negative stuff head on or if there is anything outrageously illegal about the "scam" claims, threaten legal action. Perhaps that will quiet down the naysayers? 2. Create new positive material and reviews for your client and the client's product which will start to bump the negative stuff off the first page -- of course you will have to advise your client this cannot be done overnigiht! It does take time, but eventually you will be able to get the negative stuff bumped off the first page and replaced with things you would like on the first page. 3. Address the negative stuff on your client's site. Have a page on your client's site explaining/proving WHY the product is not a scam, etc. Lastly, maybe everybody should step back and ask "why do we even care if there is negative stuff about our product?" In the end maybe a problem is being created where there is none! So there are negative comments about the product. Who cares? Focus on building the positives of the product so that it drowns out the negative stuff. Get creative here. |

I agree to post positive articles on ezine and other article directories. In addition I think it could help to create subdirectories for each articles, I agree with all the solutions you guys have come with I had a talk to the CEO of it today and he told me how they want it. He told me that google rates sites after how many clicks a site gets, not quality, backlinks or how relevant the site is to the keyword. I told him he was wrong about. In addition they will rely on users have to use URL hack to find the articles in the site. No links to the articles, the user instead have to type in the specific url... Hmm think the conversation ended with he thinking I'm weired as I didn't agree with him. ![]() |

If the CEO is not going to let you do your job as you know it should be carried out, you are banging your head against a brick wall. Look for another job or client. |

How about they fix their customer support and start taking care of their customers? Hiding the customer complaints with SEO tricks is sweeping the trash under the carpet. |

They are now thinking about posting positive articles on different domains (with different IP). But I know this won't solve the problem. as there is no guarantee that these other posts will appear in SERP #2 #3 etc. Consider I must ask them in writing that I have told them there is no guarantee it will help them. So they cannot come after me when they realize it didn't help (like positive articles appear on SERP #14 instead of #2) And they have set a limit of 20 hours I can do to solve this problem for them. Not sure I will do this, only if I see something I easy can do to solve their problem or do it a little bit easier for them |

| Yeah 2 is max from same domain, but more is possible if they are hosted in subdomains. Like google for adobe, they lots of pages appear but only 2 from each domain

I agree, no amount of SEO is going to hide their customer service. I rememebr when a competitir wrote some damaging things about one of my clients sites....it wouldve been quite easy to outrank him but I just sent him a VERY FIRM email informing him that my lawyers will have him and his company for breakfast.....its amazing that within the hour the post was deleted and nowhere to be foind on google....Muahahahahahaha |
