Do the hubs in linkwheel need to rank in the SERPS?

Just wanted to know if I need to worry about trying to get my web 2.0 sites ranking high within Google or does it really matter whether or not they perform well for the system to work?

Your linkwheel hubs are not built for ranking (at least from my perspective) - they are built to create backlinks to your money site - and pass on link juice.

In fact I would be pretty annoyed if my hubs started outranking my money sites. Then I have to count on my hubs converting - to get them to my money site? My hubs are not built for converting visitors, so that would pretty much stink...

With that said - that is not to confuse some other methods where you might approach a niche by having an article (Ezinearticles or GoArticles for example) actually do the ranking - by leveraging more powerful sites that may rank a lot easier than your money site.

I was under the impression the HUB of a wheel was the money site, and you built links from user-generated SPOKE sites?

Ha just kidding. Yeah I meant the "spokes" - web2 sites pointing to your money sites.

There is nothing wrong with getting your web2.0 properties ranking high. It's beneficial for you because if you have your properties ranking as well as your money page, you can essentially dominate the entire first page of search results. Wouldn't it be nice to have position 1-10 as your money page and your properties

I agree in some cases - when I build custom web2 sites with unique content, images, etc and put care into them, with calls to action etc. Then I want my money site ranking and all those web2 sites following. But when I build massive backlinks with linkwheels, there is an underlying purpose there to garner backlinks and not so much focusing on converting the odd customer.

But in the end it depends on what your (OP) version of a linkwheel is.

It is beneficial to have your "spokes" indexed by search engines, however you would not want them to out rank your main URL.
