Default Cashing In on Bing!

Since all of a sudden the Google vs. Bing is the hot topic...I though I would share some of my thoughts on the subject. Here's a small insert of a report that I have been writing. It comes from the data and statics I have been tracking for 6 months now.

Your comments are more than welcome if you have any insights too.

Here it goes:

Cashing In on Bing!

As a merchant, a webmaster with a product/service to sell, getting the most you can out of Bing is simply a matter of understanding what Bing can bring to your table and how to apply it.

There’s no doubt that Bing is serious about their motives to take back its own slice of the WWW with its 80 million dollar advertising budget. What is the most exciting to hear is that Bing makes no secret in their position to commercial intent. They want your products and services in their database. And, throughout their advertising, they are actively showing your potential customer how to find you.

Unlike Google, basing their search results on content to supply a platform for adwords, Bing is positioning themselves on the other side of the fence and is betting on the user having commercial intent in buying what you have to offer. This presents a golden mine field for those that are quick to adapt to the theory of opportunity.

Might I mention that Bing is not receiving rave reviews in Europe and further a-field. Their keyword search relevance is not good across Europe.

Darn.
Well..I do have an idea. I just don't have enough data to say that it is confirmed.

The reason I started tracking the behavior of the two and comparing it to how it landed in the serps is because I wanted to perfect a wp layout to please both and to be able to control/manipulate my content placement on a page.

In the process I found I lot of interesting varibles that look like that they could be consistant with the findings.

The tidbit here...is that I know that Google prefers to index non-commercial content...in other words...just good ole plain content. Like a Readers Digest kind od thing.

And, Bing wants your commercial content. They Want your sales pages and ecommerce sites. To the point that bing has placed commercials on prime TV to re-educate the sufer on how to use search terms to find what they want.

"Despite the huge investment in its Bing search engine, revenue from Microsoft’s online operations fell by 6 percent, to $490 million. That unit was Microsoft’s only division to lose money, and the loss of $480 million was 50 percent greater than last year."

Apparently people are not migrating to Bing. If you can leverage what traffic they do have then go for it.

Google rules search engines and everything that is associated with search engines and this wont be changing anytime soon. Enough said.

I gotta go cook supper.

I do know that bing likes to crawl and index "pages" and google can't get off of my "categories".

A little food for thought if you have a blog.

Hey, whatever works. I am not biased as far as Microsoft Ad Center, Yahoo Search Marketing, Google PPC. What's in a name. Plenty of people still use Bing and Yahoo and there is plenty of money to be made advertising through them.

As far as good search results go I will admit. I am a fan of Google. I tried Bing a couple of times but avoid it for the most part.

I write copy.

First of all, Debra, with all due respect, I'm not sure what you hope to accomplish by posting your 2 and a half very-introductory paragraphs about "Cashing in on Bing!". It would definitely not make me buy your report, or even get it for free. Unless you just meant to start a discussion about the subject, in which case you might as well have posted a one-liner saying "lets talk about Bing!".

Second, Just because Bing is "betting on the user having commercial intent", doesn't mean that whoever is using Bing to do their searching will magically develop an intent to buy something, out of nowhere. I hope that makes sense.

Hey Deb,

Interesting thoughts there traffic queen... ;-)

(does look a little like the intro to your next goarticles posting though, have to agree with some of the others)

I agree Bing is pushing the marketing toward a commercial perspective. Are you seeing trends/traffic to re-enforce that perspective? Is that the angle you are hinting at?

First...it wasn't an introductory that leads into anything. I'm not into writing a report for sale either. You have the right to not like the subject matter. And...I'll start my subject discussions the way I choose.

There have been a few posts today alone that talked about Bing and Google. I just though it ironic that I was working on that particular data and incorporating it into a report.

Oh...come on! Is that the best you can do to justify the fact that you just have a bad attitude. The same "IF" mentality can be applied to Adwords and at a cost.

Listen...you don't have to see that there might be a first mover position in looking into Bing...but at lot of ppl would.

Yep, I'm the ghost of Internet past - the old domains are long gone. I can't PM with this re-created account yet - send me one with your current email and I'll drop you a line.

Have sent a few emails to your gmail that I had but doesn't seem to be going through.

Last you mentioned your traffic-n-more email was flooded, so I haven't tried that one.

Look forward to catching up and discussing this thread further too!

Is it possible to get like a... bing type of google adsense? I think that would be an outstanding alternative to adsense and one day maybe adsense will have better customer support having such a crazy competitior. :P
