I am trying to come up with a Formula when looking at the Competitiors on Google 1st page. I know a week or so there was a Thread where a fellow Member said something like he adds up all the PR of each of the 10 Sites ( Pages) on the Google first page and if is below 30 or something like that then he will pursue that certain Keyphrase. Does anyone remember this Post ?? And is that a good measure to go by ?? How do some of you determine strength of Competition from the first 10 Sites on Google first page ?? And whether you want to pursue that Keyphrase or not ?? Thnx |

Number of backlinks with explicit anchor text Number of backlinks with inferred anchor text Quality of backlinks with explicit anchor text Quality of backlinks with inferred anchor text Region that the keyword is typed into PageRank of the page General authority of the main site exact match of keyword in title exact match of keyword in body text Number of available domain names for the keyword AllInTitle scores for the keyphrase AllInURL scores for the keyphrase AllInAnchor scores for the keyphrase Load times of the competiting pages Onpage optimization of the competiting pages I could probably think of 100 more personally if i was bored one day. There are probably several thousand fairly significant ones. It would be nice if one program would just give you one number and tell you the strength of competition. Some programs get close. But in reality, its not a realistic task My suggestion, Choose one of the following Market Samurai MicroNicheFinder and become a master at that one program. And at a certain point you have to realize that you must only give yourself x hours for niche research, and then you MUST act and choose the best niche you have found in that x hours period. If you don't, then you'll just be always gathering data. |

For me the most important site for me to look at is the one at number 10. If I think I can get on the first page I go for it. If not I usually find another keyword to use. The only time I look at the top spot is when targeting low search volume keywords because I will probably not get enough traffic unless I am in the top three. Personally I like Market Samurai and while it is not the only tool I use it is usually the one I start with and then just double check my results elsewhere to make sure I am not missing anything. |

To quickly analyze the top 10 results I check to see if the keyword is in the title, description, and URL. The I check the PR and domain age. Then I look at the backlinks to that particular page. If the keyword is in the title, description, and URL and the PR is over 3 I consider that hard to beat out for micro niches. If the PR is 5 or more I consider it hard to beat. If the domain age is over 4 for all the sites I usually move on. Those are quick indicators I notice immediately and just move on down the list of keywords I have. Using Market Samurai helps a lot, but you can do this all manually with the SEO Quake plugin for firefox or the SEO Book plugin. If you use SEO Quake don't do more than a few keywords at once or you will be temporarily ip banned from google and yahoo. |

i believe that just addig up the PR and comparing it to 30 is a bit vague, there are many factors that need to be taken into account when deciding whether to pursue a keyword or not.
