Hey Warriors! This is an official guide for SEO by Google and I found this on Google Blog. I don't know if it has already been shared and if it has been I'm sorry about posting this. I searched for it but didn't find it. Here you go: Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Google's SEO Starter Guide I read through some pages and I think it can be helpful for newbies. Enjoy |

Yo Mo, that's a cool place to start. Thing is, there's a lot of stuff that Google WONT tell you - and (at the risk of self promotion) in a couple of days me an my boy - we gonna tell you shed loads of stuff that big G don't want you to know. The really ****ty thing is that quite a lot of the stuff that Google doesn't want you to know is REALLY SIMPLE. but you'll see. Paul. |

It's a good beginners guide, probably more than most webmasters do. They're not giving you all the goodies though, so if you're new to SEO, don't think this is all there is.

People seem to love making seo/sem complicated - way more than it needs to be. Most people here know what works - they're just not doing it.

I'm sure you do understand that there are tactics and techniques that Google didn't include in their guide that are legitimate and do work. As I wrote before though, what's in that guide is more than most people do, so it will carry your site past most of your competition. That may or may not be enough to get your site on the front page, but it should get you close in many, if not most, cases.

It just got very complicated. Most people just haven't figured that out yet. I only did because I moved and suddenly the results were different and I wanted to know why. The answer I got was that Google determines by bounce rate and other factors which of 37 personality types uses Google most on each computer IP (even if not signed in) and returns 37 different sets of returns based on which personality type is most likely using the service. So when I moved in with my school teacher sister, everything I entered returned research and info sites instead of what I was used to. (At my house where I use the net to purchase things, with the same entry, I would get product/service sites. She does not buy on-line and only uses the net for research. Her results with the same keyword and even the same computer were totally different, page #1 results I saw at the old home were on page 10+, when I went back to my house to get some stuff, on a hunch I brought my computer and the results were back to what I was used to seeing. After returning to my sister's, the results again went to research and info sites.) Now avatars are more crutial than ever. Now you have 37 different sets of results you can optimize for and you need to know which of the 37 personalities contain your best customers or your SEO might get great results for a group of people that are not the most hyper-responsive group you could be optimizing for. Also optimizing for one group may have a negative effect on another group's results. Knowing your best customers intimately is more important now than ever. (This info came from a blood relative of a Google employee in the form of a New Years eve conversation. And though it was probably confidential, but I was not asked to keep it such, The other possibility is it is just so much smoke... but I do know I get totally different results at one house than I do at the other for the same keyword, even after clearing cache, cookies and not being signed in to anything. Even on the same computer and not just once. The only difference is IP.) |

Seo will never be dead, but what will rank for one 'personality' will not for another. this means in addition to just back-linking etc, you have to back-link from places your target personality would be likely to have linked to you from and optimize everything for that client profile, etc. Once again, it is a heard it through the grapevine still, but if you take your computer to a different house, it is a 36 out of 37 chance the results you see at your house are different then what you will see from a completely different IP associated with a 'personality' different from yours. ![]() For years, Google has provided excellent, online docmentation for free about exactly what to and not to do for SEO, Adwords, Adsense and so forth. ![]() So it's kind of ironic that in their relentless search for SEO tips, that many IM'ers never go right to the only source that can give them the facts, choosing instead to pay for information that may or may not be acceptable to Google.

As always, Google's guides are great for on site SEO work, frankly speaking there is more info on this forum about off site stuff then anywhere else on the web. Nice to see real world examples for some of the on page stuff though. |

Google want's the users to get the best and all content to just make them more money and more people to keep on using google! In reality SEO is still flawed even to this day and can be easily manipulated to your own success, but that's a whole different story! Probably a good share for the newer people to IM. Mark Blaze

I can bet that there is alot of stuff that is not covered in this guide but by reading this guide you realize that all the simple stuff you just don't do because it's seems too simple to work (and SEO is supposed to be complicated right) is stuff that google cares about and alot. EDIT: And I believe that's that #1 problem with newbies when it comes to making money online. They make it over complicated. |

Still, anyone searching for "buying blue bananas" is going to get generally the same list of sites, if the competition is low enough. I don't see how any personality is going to be so different that it won't show business sites if they are clearly typing in a keyword phrase related to buying something. Talk about over-complicating things, lol.

Keep in mind the guide is from 2008. A lot has changed across the board since then. Being a regular reader of google blogs will really be the best way to glean good info. Try this link: http://www.google.com/support/webmas...y?answer=35769 Paul |
