Arrow Google content CTR - What's Average Or Acceptable?

Hey Warriors,

I just started running a campaign on Google Content Network. I know what a good CTR is for search and I know content is much lower. I also understand there are many factors involved and there is no typical or standard.

I'm just looking for a ball park figure.

How about; what is your lowest CTR that has been profitable.

As of this writing the campaign has only about 1000 impressions and average position of 5.6.

Any info. you can share will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Brent

I've had a 3% CTR that was pretty profitable just because the keywords I was targeting were worth a good amount.

I've had 10% CTR on keywords that had much lower payout and less searchs therefore it was not as profitable.

I think you have to take everything into account here - not just the CTR.

But in answer to your question - 3% was the lowest profitable one for me.

I attended a recent Ad Tech event in NY and actually spoke with the Google Content Network Team while I was there.

Of all the experts that were there, everyone agreed that an average CTR on any content page is about .1%.

Yes that is right .1%. Even the Google team acknowledged this.

I have tested hundreds of Content Network campaigns and they all differ from one niche to the next.

I have had CTR's as high as 20% that were not profitable and I have had them as low as .01% that were profitable.

The key is to run campaigns, continue to test and then optimize based on the data you receive.

You will get varying CTR's from one niche to the the next because there are so many elements that can affect that.

It could be the keywords, the niche you are in, the ad copy, the colors of on your ads, the sites you ads are showing on, etc.

The only way to really make it work on Content Network is to test and optimize.

Google also is now making Quality Score a big deal on the Content Network so make sure you are sending traffic to relevant sites that have relevant content and not just a one page landing page or a thin affiliate site.

All this stuff matters.

This is all based on what I got from the session with the Google Content Network Team at Ad Tech, other experts I have met in this field, and my own personal experience.

The more you please Google, the better your campaigns will perform. That includes CTR's, conversions, cost per click, etc.

Well, to get any sort of meaningful number you want to compare apples with apples, and that means comparing like niches. I have a small finance-related niche that gets 0.45% content network CTR. But profitability for me really depends on conversion rate after the click -- which varies wildly at times. Some months it's profitable, some months it's not, and CTR always stays about the same.

Thanks for your replies.

So, the first day was .04 % CTR.

Haven't had a chance to check other info., but now I have something to improve on.
