I am really new to all of this internet marketing stuff so bear with me... I am trying to get a grasp on the whole backlinking thing and I thought I'd make some blog comments at blogs relevant to my topic. Every blog I come across has "nofollow", and to my understanding that makes the links fairly useless as far as search engine rank. Is there a better way of finding blogs that don't use nofollow than just manually checking each blog I come to? And while I'm on the subject...using forums for backlinking. I've seen it discussed on this website but it wasn't clear to me if people were placing links in their signatures or if they were placing links in their profiles on whatever forum website they register on. I hope these questions aren't too stupid. Thanks. Tim |

I actually get a lot of traffic to a couple of my sites as a result of links that have the no follow tag. I think sometimes people get too hung up on SEO. Low quality links don't produce traffic, while well positioned links do, and that is true with regard to SEO also. Some people would argue with me on this point, but my suggestion is to get good links, and the rest will follow. Don't just try to buy your link building with no attention to quality.

This site is called Do Follow Blog List, check it out Do Follow Blog List | DoFollow Blogs Do a Google search for something like Do follow blogs and you'd find plenty As far as the 2nd question goes, it depends on the forum. Some forums only allow links in your sig while others allow on the body as well. Either way, you want to leave an educated and useful comment. Otherwise, you're not adding value to the forum and if it is moderated, they will remove your comments together with your sig |

thanks for the replies guys. I plan on doing both...commenting on good blogs just for traffic and also specifically seeking out dofollow blogs.

There are no do follow blogs. There is no such thing. If a blog does not use the "nofollow" tag, it does not make it a do follow. There is no tag dofollow. Google will choose to count a link only if it chooses. You cannot force google to count a link. And nofollow is a little misleading. No follow does not mean no follow. It means the authority of the main site is not passing it on to the link. It means nothing more to the link. But you still get traffic. However, blog replying is a lousy way to get good backlinks. Do something else. The reason for the "nofollow" tag is the abuse of blog commenting. Google is devaluing blog commenting anyway. Paul |

It depends on your selected niche....before my site is nofollow and I'm getting less traffic but now my blog is dofollow I've made my visitors to come....

The no-follow tag has become very popular with all high end blogs. If you're trying to leave comments then you'll find there are rarely any have do follow links.

Believe it or not, forum sigs and your own blog posts are two of the best. And I am in a minority, but I think blogspot rocks. At least mine are. Toss in squidoo, a very high PR site that google loves, and digg, and you have a short but sweet list. I used to do a lot of blog commenting. Now I do none. Unless it is just for fun, of course. But..ahem...there is no such thing as a "do follow" blog. You cannot force google to count, follow, or value a link. Paul |
