When I have a keyword for the content network, how does that work since AdSense it shown even when people aren't really searching for things...I mean, does it show up on pages that contain that keyword in the content on the page or what?

For example, if my keyword is [blue jacuzzi] will it display in all AdSense sites with that exact keyword in the content?

I think I'm not understanding...

Yes, sorry, regarding running AdWords on the content network. I've always shut down the CN but want to see how it converts for me.

        Hi slippy1,

Adwords targets at the ad group level not the keyword level. This means that they consider your ad text, landing page as well as all the keywords in your ad group to target your ad.

Simply changing your ad text will sometimes alter the targeting of your ad. Keywords still have an impact, but as a group, not at the individual keyword level.

Since ads on the content network are not displayed in response to a search term, your ad text, especially the headline, must capture the attention of the visitor. For this reason, you will need to write your ads a little differently to optimize for the content network.

Here are some Content Network Optimization Tips from AdWord's site you mayfind helpful.
