The backlinks I set up for my site doesn't show up in Google, Yahoo! Site Explorer, or Backlink Watch. I used Paul's Backlink Packet, social bookmarks (I did this manually), and some web 2.0 properties, I even wrote articles and posted (and approved) by ezinearticles.com. I ping everything (the profiles in Paul's BL packet, social bookmarks, articles) via Ping-o-Matic!. I started doing everything regularly (around 5-10 every day) 3 weeks ago. And yet, no backlinks are indexed via links:mydomainname.com in Google. I'm not sure if my ranking is improving too since I started at 21 and now at 17 and it stayed there for 1 week already. How does this backlinking thing work really? |

Am I missing something here? What's up with those last 2 replies? If the sites you are linked on are indexed by google, and google regularly crawls them, your links will show up. Eventually. You can't speed up a website you don't own. You can't dictate to google what they count or when they count. BUT....putting a link on a site that is crawled all the time by google should get your linked counted ASAP. That's about it. I don't think pinging in this case would have any effect. You are also discovering that link count is not an exact science. Just build as many as you can as fast as you can, and hope for the best. Paul |

http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home You will get a more accurate view of your backlinks. Be aware that Google will only display a sampling of your backlinks. You will never see the true full count. The reason you will never see all backlinks has something to do with Google protecting their algo and to prevent other webmasters from finding all your link partners. As far as seeing your links goes...unless the sites where you add your link have a dynamically updating sitemap.xml that includes your profile pages, Google will need to "discover" your actual profile pages via a crawl. Be aware also, that backlinks are ONLY ONE factor in determining SERP positions and PageRank. Google states that they factor in over 270 data elements to determine the importance of sites and pages. | |

I've found that several backlinks are NEVER displayed. I've never had a single backlink from GoArticles displayed in Site Explorer, but I've seen their effect in the rankings. I think at the end of the day, that's all that matters. |

If you want to see if your profile links are getting indexed what you need to do is use a unique user name for all the profiles linking to a particular site. Then you do a search for that name and see if it shows up. For example use something like Jakefreefall89 for all the profiles going towards your #1 site. Once a week do a google search for Jakefreefall89 and see how many show up. For your second site use a different user name and so on. |

I agree with the above post. Google will never show you all of your backlinks. They have to keep some of their hand a secret because the spammers would love to crack their algorithm. If they did then we would all be screwed because Google is hard to get into and rank high but it's the hard part of it that makes them worth the while of putting in the leg work. Yahoo is much better at showing you your backlinks. I know that I had a site indexed really quick using Rss feeds, bookmarks and pinging it all. Took about 24 hours or so to get indexed. Took about 2 months before I showed up in the SERPS but because I was constantly building backlinks I flew out of that sandbox like a bat out of hell. I ranked 145 on week then shot up to #33 the next week. I am getting backlinks all the time now so I will only be a few more weeks before I'm in the top spot. |

Thank you everyone for all the posts. They all help a lot. So I guess my backlinks don't have to "show up" for it to have an effect on my rankings right? I just need to do my job and keep building and have a little faith that it would rise in rankings eventually. Thank you very much all. |

Submit your website in google webmaster tool. And it takes some times to show your backlinks. google is very particular while choosing backlinks. Paul's Backlink Packet is not good in terms of backlinks. I have personally tried it. You just do good forums, blogs, article, press release for backlinks. When you will do your blog in blogger submit it also in webmaster tool.

I use Google Slinger and a free method using IceRocket Free RSS Builder that allows me to create a page full of my profile links or feeds that I can then send to the usual directories.

This is very true. I created a few hundred links with a particular anchor text this past week and while not one of them has shown up as yet my google ranking for the key phrase went from not in the top 100 to #14 sometime in the last couple of days. I did nothing else with that key phrase other than use it with those backlinks. You really just need to work at and watch the end results and not get too obsessive about what links you can see. The Google Slingshot method is proving to be very good at getting any kind of link indexed within just about a day!

You may want to use Yahoo's Explorer to count your links. They're usually more accurate than Google's indexing to find total link count. But neither one of them can be 100% accurate all the time... that's the nature of the internet beast, being so widely dispersed and variable. |

Think about Google like you were it's owner who loves it and who do all the best to provide the best possible service. What you would do? Which articles site to index and which not? What priorities to set for indexing? I see there are a lot of articles submiting sites with backlinking. But... only few of them are the best. All the rest are medium quality. The harder to get in the better. If articles site is checking quality of articles then thats a good sign. I noticed that hubpages.com gets indexed very fast in Google. But it requires some work to get in and remove "nofolow" from backlinks there. They baned out several my articles because of gramar etc All that is good sign. |
