Use Google Analytics, but to release it's full potential you should undertake some training (teaching yourself is fine), look at using Advanced Segments to track Organic SEO. there loads of info on how to do this from good seo resource sites.

Yes goals in google analytics is very good;it allows you to see if you are hitting your targets. You should also use software like web ceo which tells you your current rankings and lets you know the improvements or penalties you have received since your last search |

Hey is it possible to track SEO efforts not being the owner of the website? I want to compare some of sites with my site, but I don't know how to track their daily visitors and their daily efforts on SEO working out.

Like everyone has mentioned, use some tracking software like Google ANalytics, its free and pretty simple to use. Initially you want to look at the keywords you are targetting so I would also suggest that you invest in a 'ranking' tool. Theres plenty of free tolls out there, I personally use SEO Elite. This working in conjunction with analytics can be excellent. Once you know your efforts are working then you can focus on visitor retention and how you can maximise their stay and increase revenue for your online business. Hope that helps! Zaheer |

If you kno wwhat keywords they are targetting then yes, you can simply enter this in some kind of keyword ranking software. With reagrds to in-depth tracking, not really although you can probably use somethign like Alexa rankings to give you a general idea on your competitos reach and market penetration. The other method is to hack into their site but I don't recommend that...lol |

I think you need to explain what you mean by "SEO efforts". If it's ability to rank for certain keywords, free Google monitor is the best free tool there is. SEO Elite is the best paid tool. |

Google analytics is great for in depth analysis, but it does not give you much distance vision. I like to use simple high level indicators like: - nb of backlinks reported by yahoo Bl tool - or nb of occurence of a unique sentence in google (which indicates how many times an article has been published) - or compare the nb of links you expected you needed to rank on page 1 versus how many were actually required - or average ecpm for a page versus what you anticipated (ecpm is available in Google analytics) It is also interesting to write down on note pad some changes made in a page and see if they produce results I have not found any tools for these except Notepad, Excel or MSAccess Remy |

One metric that i like to keep track of is search engine rankings. This is the best way to see which keywords are performing the best.
