I just have a quick question. How many is the maximum number of keywords I can put in my meta keyword tag before I start getting diminishing returns or they start getting ignored completely?

Just use the keywords you are targeting for that page, which should be more more than 2 ideally unless you are targeting long tail phrases whereby you could squeeze more variations onto one page. The general rule is to target a page to one or two keywords/phrases. In case you didn't know, Google ignores the Meta keywords tag.
