The key to google's rankings are backlinks. For me, it is always relatively easy to get a site to rank well in Google. Yahoo, on the other hand, is a crapshoot.Sometimes sites rank well, sometimes they don't. I have sites that are on page 1 of Google that aren't in the top 1000 of Yahoo.

Not just backlinks anymore. Google is looking for relativity and organic randomness as well. Add unique content to that organic randomness as well. A site with 50 BLs can beat a site with 400, and not just higher page rank links either.

Not *just* backlinks, but backlinks is 95% of it (that is, you certainly need your other ducks in a row, but if you don't have the backlinks for competitive terms, you will not rank well, period)

Of course quality of links matters

As for relativity, I don't pay any attention to relativeness (i don't even know how you would determine it) with respect to my backlinks and my sites rank well and fast. "organic randomness" sounds sexy and all, but my links certainly aren't random and again, my sites rank well and fast.

See I am the opposite from you.

Google #1 and Yahoo not in the top 10 pages.

I rank well on all other search engines except Yahoo. Yahoo Search Engine sucks so I am sure they will change there algo very soon to be more like google & bing. That is my opinion.

But for Google! Good Onpage SEO..... Then Build your backlinks and you will kill it!

Thanks,
Brian P

Me too. Yahoo works much different to Google. Although as Google is more popular, my Google rankings are all i care about.

2 of my sites did the Google Dance and have never come back on to page one even though everyone said don't worry they will come back, even higher in fact

No idea why since they are both top 5 on Bing.com (I know that doesn't count for much)

i dont know what your domain name is but i can tell you this: If you have a domain that matches the keyword search example get rid of pimples .com or .net you will almost certainly rank 1st on yahoo bing you will have to build more backlinks for google i have top sites on yahoo bing because of domain name it only works for .com or .nets go look for yourself on yahoo the .com and .net will always be at top
