Questions about social bookmarking

Warning: Complete Noob Question

What do people use social bookmarking for? Indexing? Backlinks?
What are the best social bookmarking sites to submit to?
Do you submit the URL of every page on your site? Or do you submit the URLs of your rss feeds?
When you sign up with a social bookmarking site, should you go through all the trouble of creating your profile and describing yourself or is that kind of a moot point for indexing and backlinking?

You can use social bookmarking to build your backlinks. I use it to increase my site rank. Some of the best social bookmarking site can also generate loads of genuine traffic and leads, like digg, stumble upon and twitter. If you want to save your time, just use an automatic social bookmarking tool. You can download it for free

Bookmarks can be used to build backlinks but I mainly use them for getting my new sites indexed fast.

You don't have to create an entire profile to use social bookmarks that would be profile backlinks.

I use the free service onlywire to submit my new site to all the top social bookmark sites at once. Then i create my rss feed and submit my feed to as many rss directories as possible and ping the bookmarks and rss feed using pingler.com

Social Bookmarking is good to get you site index pretty quickly( I use Ping FM) but for backlinks has not produce any difference for me, maybe my sites has no too much power. From all my social sites Facebook is the only one that bring me targeted traffic, good amount of traffic btw.

Just curious, how do you use Facebook to bring you targeted traffic? I have a facebook page, but I think I would only be annoying my friends if I kept posting all my sites' urls.

I'm still confused on the Facebook thing... You need friends on facebook to send out updates, posts etc. Sooo do you have to create a new page, add a sh*t-ton of people, and essentially spam a bunch of different links leading to irrelevant sites? Do you pay for an ad campaign on facebook or something like that? I understand the social bookmarking mostly... just confused on using Social Networks such as facebook and myspace to your benefit.

pretty much already answered by others but social boomarks are bascially to sprinkle the Google bait out for the Google spiders so your site will get indexed fast. I normally just use onlywire to submit my site sites. Onlywire is free and only uses the top bookmarking sites....you have to site up to all the sites once but after that it's just push one button and your done....

I know social bookmarking is a nice way to get traffic, but the problem I want solved is:-
1. What are do follows social bookmarks
2. How do I submit My website URL's to social bookmarks, sincethey mostly require registration unlike SEO Directories
3. Does it mean I have to register for all of them before I can submit my URL

I used bookmarking sites to get the traffic to my sites and i am getting good quality traffic from lots of social bookmarking sites.
