If a DoFollow blog doesn't allow you to put keyword anchor text as your name but only your real name is it still worth it to post on that blog? Of course it still allows you to post your URL but without that keyword anchor text is it a waste of time? Also, should I not leave several comments on the same blog? Sometimes I want to comment on various posts but I don't know if this appears to be spam. Basically, should I keep blog posts to a minimum?

You will get 1000 different replies to this questions, but personally I will take any link I can get. Even without (good) anchor text your still getting the juice, and it helps make your backlinking look more natural.

Yes, it will still pass pagerank but use anchor text wherever you can as this will add weight to your actual keywords.

Look there is so much hype about dofollow and nofollow. Remember the days before the nofollow tag? Everything was dofollow then. Let's clear some things up. The nofollow tag only stops search engine spiders following that link. It doesn't stop them indexing or "crediting" your link on whatever site it's on. Should you comment on blogs that are nofollow still? YES! You still get a backlink. Regardless of the anchor text. Hope this answers your question. |

I too comment on any blog I can. Normally, I comment only on subjects I know about, or else my comment looks plain spam. As someone said above, any link is better than no link at all. I have some no-follow WordPress comment backlinks that show up in SEs. Regards, Revolves |

Sarah, no one has addressed your question about making multiple comments on the same blog... If it contributes to the conversation, go for it. I have multiple comments on a couple of blogs using just my name as the anchor text, and I get credit for the link and actual traffic from people clicking through to check me out. Some blogs are running threaded comments, so it's possible to have multiple comments on the same post, much less the same blog... |

[QUOTE=SarahHarris818;1783818]Of course it still allows you to post your URL but without that keyword anchor text is it a waste of time? QUOTE] NO its not a waste of time for that reason but it may be. Any follow link will convey PR juice but if its a well known dofollow site then you may have so many links on the page the actual PR that goes to you will be almost nonexisrtent. |

I generally think that although the 2nd link from the same IP would be worth slightly less then the exact same link from a different IP, I don't think the difference is so large to make me never leave multiple links on the same blog sites. In fact I've found that less competitive keywords can be ranked strictly based on blog comments on a few in-niche sites. |

Now over 3 months later the page the link points to is still not indexed and yet many of the blog posts with my comment are indexed, because most of the owners didn't delete it. My page that is not indexed is on a website that Google loves aswell, I've had no problem getting over 300+ pages indexed. I don't link to that page from any other internal page because I don't need to for my regular visitors. You can try your own blogspot test if you don't believe me | |

Umm, NoFollow links DO get Indexed but they DO NOT pass link juice/page rank... read Matt Cutts, read Wikipedia, read any reputable source to verify this. Further to that multiple links from the same IP Address/Website DO count towards your ranking, why do you think so many people here use the Signature links... it's not like they just get counted once from one page and then all the others are disregarded. Multiple links from the same page to the same URL do get ignored, the first has precedence when calculating anchor text weight. I was also wondering if using your name helps at all in blog comments, I guess it helps build Authority, and using your name makes it far more likely that your comment will be approved. @omponk I use Market Samurai as the "Desktop Checker" and just good old Yahoo! Site Explorer if I'm looking at links to other websites. |

Yes! Use a variety of anchor text for your backlinks so that you do not look like an auto-spammer to the search engines. Remember that an enormous number of links on the internet have the anchor text 'click here' so bear that in mind when you create a variety of backlink anchor text phrases. As for online backlink checkers, I use LinkDiagnosis dot com among others. |

Some common mistakes made by overeager commentators or marketers: 1) Copy paste your comments on a dozen sites. Savvy blog owners can easily see your comment appearing elsewhere and won't approve the comment. Not only that, it might get marked as spam. 2) "Outsource" your blog comments. I know those 100 comments for 10 bucks a pop to some third world country dude....some blog owners dislike this. Not only that, these outsourced folks usually do a poor job. 3) Spam your keywords in the name field. Some blog owners are ok with this, but many are not. Putting your own name helps your comment get approved as has been remarked on by others earlier. 4) Backlinking to a crap site. Crap sites you say? I've seen worse, nowadays I notice there's people grabbing a bunch of keyword domains (info and org) and haven't even develop the site at all, and outsourcing comments to try to "build" links to those (totally) empty sites. Almost any blog owner that checks their comments will feel insulted and likely mark the comments as spam, which is what they are. Blog comments are a useful SEO tool, but only if you do them right. I know it is tedious, but hey, that's "internet marketing" for you..... |
