Hi, I have 2 sales pages that are almost similar on my website. Just the heading etc. that are different. Would this damage my rankings as duplicate content, or is it fine if it is on the same site? Thanks so much. |

My understanding is that google will ignore the site with the lower SERP.

I guess the question is why do you have 2 identical sales pages? If there is some real need for both, i wouldn't worry about it. Google is ony concerned with people trying to deliberately manipulate their page rank by using a bunch of duplicate content. They will choose one of the 2 to list and forget about the other. |

I have a test page, that I circulate sometimes to split test my conversions, but unfortunately it seems that one that is NOT the homepage ranks better, although all my backlinks are send to my homepage. Hmm, strange... |

No it will not hurt you ... Search Engines only care about dup content that is created for the sole purpose to manipulate the search rankings, such as doorway pages. James |

Iīm sure itīll be better to be unique and do not create multiple pages with the same content.

Yes, dupe penalty exists in that the SEs will choose one page over another if hosted on same site/domain/hosting platform. If the sales pages were on different websites, with different webhosting IPs then there's wouldn't be a problem with just 2 pieces of dupe content out there |

Google say that they pick the most "relevant" page for a particular SERP, which is why some people with original content see others who have scraped it from them ranking better, because they have thrown a ton of links at it.

Can't you rewrite that sales page enough for it to pass the dupe filter?

Question?. I think it has been answered above. How would you do this. Let's assume I have a niche with 8 long tailed phrases. I get a domain name for each one. I want to use the same video for all 8 domains. Will this work? Any suggestions? Thank you.

Why do you people get mixed up with the question? (Even so, dupe content used to trick google will not work) Of course sales pages are going to be similar. That's not even close to what google is talking about with dupe content. Having the same page on many urls, of course. That's not the question, and that's not what people mean 99% of the time when talking about dupe content. You people don't even read the answers or look at what is being talked about. Some just scream "OH YEAH, dupe content is bad news, man! Google will shut you down!" Complete nonsense! Get real people! Paul |

| I don't think you have too much to worry about. Lots of sites have duplicate or very similar content.

Thanks for all the advice. I guess I will just keep the duplicate pages to a minimum. Its going to be too much of a hassle to rewrite it just for the chance of a penalty.

It probably won't penalize you, but don't get in the habit of doing it or else you might see some bad things happen to your site.

This debate has been around for a long time. I doubt it matter too much within the same site.
