In order to protect the identities of the authors, I won't mention their names and products... I read in a particular warrior's product that when Amazon (in the inner pages) and other web 2.0 websites (in the inner pages) appear on your keyword SERP, it would be tough to beat. As they have humongous amounts of backlinks on the DOMAIN... Even if they don't have any backlinks on the PAGE... Their high PR makes them tough to beat. This seems to coincide with the profile backlinking methodology... meaning creating profiles for backlinks (which is an inner page with no PR residing on a high PR main site) on high PR sites actually have an effect on your rankings. However, I saw a series of videos saying that if your keyword SERP shows Amazon, eBay, ezinearticles, etc. with few backlinks on the PAGE, this is a good sign. Can anyone clear Strength of competition out for the rest of us?=) |

If you build an entire site around the keyword -- with proper internal linking and all that -- you'll beat an Amazon page that doesn't have any backlinks. The Amazon page's strength comes from the internal links on the Amazon site. But it won't happen overnight. You have to think in terms of a few months during which you throw weak backlinks at your page(s). If you are lucky enough to get a few "real" backlinks from other people, it'll be easier. My theory is: Amazon (and related) sites get to the 1st page of the SERPs because Google hasn't found anything better to put there. If you have an entire site about a keyphrase, you should be able to beat Amazon's single page. Understand that if the Amazon page is on-page optimized for your keyphrase, it'll be a lot more difficult. That is, if the keyphrase is in the title, url, meta description, and in some header tags... This is a lot harder to beat than just a general Amazon page that happens to have your keyword on it in the body text. To make a long story short: if Amazon (or EzineArticles) rules the SERPs, the odds are there is no authority site there. So you can make an authority site if you put enough effort into it. |

I leap for joy when I see these type of pages. I have a perfect 5 out of 5 making the top 3 from results that showed mainly web2.0 pages. A colleague of mine got 46 sites on page 1 in 3 weeks from keyword phrases that had these type of pages occupying the first page of google. |

I find that it is possible to rank better than inner amazon pages if you have a keyword concentrated domain with some other content-filled pages.

I see, I guess we are in agreement then that when these sites appear in the SERPs it's a good sign=) Thank you very much...

Heck yeah...I love to see Amazon page on the top then because I know that no other marketer has currently beaten out the top spot...Amazon has a huge high PR for their home page but the inner pages rank individually so beating them out isn't really hard at all. Just keep tossing solid backlinks at the site and watch it rise like dough. |

I find that yes, amazon can be beaten fairly easily. There is one caveat, though. Sometimes, amazon category pages have real backlinks. So, if you see a product page up there, you can almost certainly beat it. On the other hand, if you see a category, like "hats", you're less likely to beat it. |

Lets say you have a product on your page OXIE for acne (made up name) that Amazon also carries. Lets say the rest of your site is about Acne but you only have one content article on OXIE. Can you still beat Amazon if you throw enough links at the OXIE page? |

In my examples and my friends as well they were all exact match domains with the keyword on the index page. I am not sure if the keyword is on an inner page of your site on how it would go. HTH Craig | |

1. Amazon pages are not very easy to outrank. You can outrank them, but it'll take a bit of work (especially in the long term). 2. Sometimes Amazon SEO the hell out of their product pages (for their best selling products). Those you wont outrank. I have over 50 niche blogs competing with Amazon for various keywords/niches, so I'm talking from my own experience here. |
