I usually put three adsense units in my blog, sometimes four. I read somewhere that if you have lots of adsense units, it will lower your CPC? Is this true? If then, what is the ideal number of adsense units to place in your website to maximize your earnings?

Experiment constantly. I usually run ads for about 3-4 days to monitor CTR then move them around and keep a detailed log of changes and how they affect CTR and CPC. I've done this and gotten a blog that would get 2-3 clicks a day up to 30 or so clicks a day. I use the 250 box the most, and blend it into the beginning and end of my articles. Also the 160 wide skyscrapper works great as well. These are pretty much my sole AdSense ads. Once you've found some great locations, start experimenting with colors, blending, etc. -Safe Travels |

I have found that two double boxes in the upper right corner (under the top nav) works best for me... I usually only use those two boxes as well, to ensure that only the best paying click come through... Two double medium size boxes works great... I have built a few wordpress templates around this and find almost 8-10% conversion rates.. I know some people will argue that they don't like the double boxes... But it works well for me... I have one site that pays my mortgage, so you can't argue with that... I found this while reading the Adsense Code, a book written a few years ago... I also make sure the colors match my site as close as possible... This has help conversion rates as well.... |

I thought the adsense TOS only allows 3 blocks maximum? A lot depends on what I'm blogging about, but at most I have 2 blocks per page and usually only 1. I generally prefer a banner style block. When I include a second block I make it a picture ad so I get some color and texture on the page and I place that banner directly beneath the first so I have a text block at the top with a picture block underneath. Don't forget that there are other ad networks available out there and mixing in some of these other highly targeted ads can be beneficial. |

You can have a max of 3 blocks and 3 link units. I prefer to only have 3 total. Normally I pick the actual ad blocks over the link units. As long as you can make it all blend in without looking spammy, you should use 3 in my opinion! For simpler pages with less content use less.

Thanks for all your inputs. But does the number of ad units affect your CPC? Like if you have lesser ad units, the higher your earnings will be. I read somewhere that theres this guy who jut use one rectangle block unit at the top of his post below the title...and he gets a higher CPC.
