Questions For Experienced AdSense Users.

We do run career article directory. It is about six months old and the traffic is picking up very well.

Decided to use ad sense on it addition to the affiliate banners but it does not converting very well at all.

One of the problems is that the traffic is more article marketers than people with career interest but when the site gets bigger that should eventually change.

I would still like to get some ideas how I could improve adsense on the site in terms of the ad placements, colour and size and text or image or link ads.

First, your ads are below the fold and I had to go looking for them to find them. You want at least one right up top, preferably on the left. (others may disagree, so test it out)

Next, drop the border around them, and make the links black instead of the ugly green.

Then, most of the ads being displayed are geared toward Nursing for some reason. That will cut your interested viewers by at least 99% since the majority of people aren't looking to become a nurse. Not sure how to solve that, maybe filter out those sites in your AdSense account and see what else shows up?

Last, some types of visitors just won't click anything, and return visitors become blind to ads, so that traffic is worth way less than unique visitors.

Looked at the pages dedicated to how to become an 'Internet Marketer'.

The ad on the top left hand side is too small. The bigger the ad the greater the effectiveness. Could place the biggest banner they have (336 x 280?).

Also the adsense ad is blended in with the text. The most eye catching features are the 'HowToBecome.info' logo and the menu options such as 'Categories', 'New Members', 'Nav Menu', and 'Actions'. If these colours were dummed down and the adsense ads were the most colourful people will be drawn to them.

Some of the ads seem very relevant such as ads selling courses for Internet Marketing.

In the nav bar home button links to this page HowToBecome.info | Find Out About Different Careers And Professions - Free Career Articles! not Find Quality Training Courses - How To Become and main page looks really weird to me
I guess you need to work on your site's structure first.

Then as was said before, use bigger ads 336 x 280 above the fold like you do on the bottom of the article with blue links.

Thank you pointing that out to me, I did change Home button for Articles Home, now it makes more sense.

I am not really sure about the bigger adds on the top, I know you are probably right as I checked ezine articles and articlebase and they haven’t hold back with their ads at all. As a reader it does really puts me off, especially reading anything on ezine articles, but they are most popular article directory so they must know what they are doing so maybe I should give it a go.

I did drop the border around them and I quite like it, looks more structured now.

I did noticed that ezine articles and articlebase are not using borders around their adds so yet again should I follow them?

I did get lot of articles about nursing lately and they are in majority now I think that was the reason the ads where geared toward Nursing, It should even itself out.

The ads on each individual article page are still quite relevant.

I did change the link colour to brighter blue so they do are more visible now. I am not still sure about making them bigger as I am worried to but some of the readers off.

I did also experiment with different colours for url’s but I could not decide which one would go the best, I do actually like green myself, but maybe the black would be the better choice.
