SEO Addiction?

Do you feel like too many people get addicted to SEO, so much so that they don't even bother building a worthwhile site? I see it all the time, and then they wonder why they aren't making any money. When are people going to learn and actually make sites that are worthwhile?

Couldn't care less what other people do and neither should you unless it has a direct correlation to YOUR business.

How does worrying bout what other people "feel" have any bearing on your own business.

Maybe they just want some fast cash.
They think if they put some articles on site and adsense, a lot of link, they will get a lot of traffic and a lot of money, but of course it's wrong.

If they are focusing on the wrong things, they won't wind up making much, or any, money. They'll then be forced to re-evaluate their plan and examine what isn't working. So I'd think it'd be a lesson unto itself. They'll either learn or give up.

I care because people get involved in programs that are supposed to rack in big money through a simple seo scheme, and they don't realize there is more to it than SEO.

But maybe it is good, because the only way to learn what is good and what is not good is to try, see and feel, what really works and what does not work.

I've certainly made my share of mistakes over the years (fewer in recent years), and I do understand about people needing to find out for themselves. I remember people used to preach about building a site for the user, and forget about search engines, and I didn't listen. Now I totally get that.

Yes, build an awesome site that people love. Get that right, and you will not even care about seo, as you will be too busy counting money.

All you can do is show them the way. If they are dumb enough to ignore obviously important things like quality then I guess it makes less competition for the rest of us :P

Yes exactly, but people has to see somewhere her work.
So you have to promote on some another way your site.

Over time her work will sell itself as she meets people over the years and builds a portfolio and contacts. More and more, over time, her site will speak for itself, and her retention rate will start to increase. SEO is a very small part of that equation.

100% agree Do this and the search engines will send you traffic. That traffic in turn will build links to you. That is how I build my sites and my business.

True you won't get the "built the site at 11am, indexed by Google at 11:18, hit page one by 11:26, had 1000th visitor by noon, made $115,000 in adsense by 1:15pm, and flipped for 2.8 billion at 4:45pm" time-line that many shovel salesmen imply and many sheep hope for.

After six months you will be miles ahead of them. If you need the tools to put up two sites a day, you are following the wrong model.

If you need to get indexed in Google today as opposed to next week, you are following the wrong model.

And some wonder when they hear the oft repeated stat that 90+ percent of online ventures fail. It's no damn wonder.

If this were the brick and mortar world people wouldn't be this stupid. You'd come up with a business plan and follow it. You wouldn't start a baby crib store in the morning and decide to start a dog training business later that morning.

Yes the low cost barrier of the internet eases entry. It does not however ease the need for brains to succeed.

I always start with a 500 word informative article. The information is key to keeping the customers. From there, I run my site through I Business Promoter and tweek the wording for SEO. The program is not cheap, but definitely worth it. From there, I build links and rise to the top of search engine rankings.

The simple process of combining user friendliness, quality information and SEO works every time.

What is the point in making a website worthwhile when nobody can find it??? Its like sticking a shop down a dark allyway without any signs. You need a healthy balance between a good website and good SEO.

I'm terrible at this, always having new ideas, setting up little sites for them, optimising them, then leaving them on the back burner.
I must have 40 or 50 little 10 page websites scattered around with ideas I
start with, but then move on to something else.
The silly thing is, some of these rank really well for the initial idea, but I have lost interest by then and moved on to something else.

I can truly see your point. You may have the best, helpful, simple to use site, appealing to many. But if it can't be found...what good is it?

If the site is "appealing to many" then there is going to be a natural growth in links and traffic as a result.

How will the many find your site ?

There is only 1 way to get traffic to your site, you have to pay for it .

You either pay for ads through adwords or similar programs.

or

You pay with your time by doing SEO and building some proper backlinks.

The if i build a good site they will come rule does not cut it anymore you need to promote your site or it will end up in the graveyard meant for sites without traffic.

Well, I'm still a newbie in SEO but I enhance my knowledge by keep on updating myself on participating in webmaster forums. I apply the effective strategy, observe and just stick on a process that makes your website valuable to search engines.
