Need to rename categories in Wordpress blog

I need to rename a couple of categories on my Wordpress driven site.

Has someone here done this before and can offer some words of advice with regard to any redirects rules and anticipated hit to SEO/ranking/indexing?

If you leave the slug the same and only change the display name, the url won't change.

Otherwise you'll need to manually edit the .htaccess file and create your own redirects.

If your urls currently do not include the category, then there won't be any problems for your posts with the search engines. If category is included and you change the slug, you are in for a mess.
