It start's with keyword research, if you choose to optimize the lens for the wrong keyword, you will never see any organic rankings.

After you have found a good keyword, then you should start to collecting all the content you planning to create for the lens. Write all the content, shoot the videos, links, images and all the other content your planning to put on the lens.

Then start building the lens.

Then once the lens is build, start building links.

As for finding the right keyword, try to find keywords were other Web 2.0 property are rankings. Sites like, EZA, Goarticles (Article Directory in general), video's etc...

That is the general formula I use, but you have to make sure the keywords are rank-able, otherwise everything will be in vain, if your planning to get traffic via search engines.

My suggestion for you is that if your content is IM related/mlm/work from home/ affiliate marketing don't waste the time. Squidoo is knocking of lenses like google is adwords advertisers.

You might want to make sure that you are following the TOS to a t.

But, if you want more ranking, just get more backlinks and viewers. Easy as that....lol

Agha - assuming that the lens is about a topic Squidoo will accept, here are some tips for optimizing your lens:

1. Use your keyword phrase in the URL.
2. Include the keyword phrase in bold in the first sentence or two of your intro module.
3. Include your keyword phrase in bold in the final module (I usually make this the guestbook or the About Me module).
4. Use your keyword phrase in the main lens title.
5. Have 2-3 related keyword phrases and use those in your other module titles.
6. Always use the subtitle box and make them keyword rich as well.
7. Include your keywords in the images you upload to the lens whether through the image loader or manually by hosting them elsewhere.
8. Use alt tags for any images you include that are hosted elsewhere.
9. The more content the better.
10. Make sure to fill out the tags section. I try to use anywhere from 20-40 tags.
11. Nofollow all outgoing links you include in your lens unless they are pointing to your own sites.

While a good lens takes some work, it can be well worth it. I have a number of lenses with PR3-PR5 page rank and they generate a fair amount of traffic for my websites.

Good luck!

squidoo ranks really well and if you can just make some backlinks to it and have done the keyword research right then there can be quite some traffic from it

The Squidoo lenses are like the other websites because even if they are regularly updated but with no links, the SEO results would be weak.

Back links is the next step.

In squidoo you can increase your lens PR just by commenting on other related lenses with good PR. When you comment on other members lenses that creates another backlink to your lens giving you a boost in PR and a steady increase in authority for your niche. Its the same when you try and find dofollow blogs to get back links to your main site to increase PR and notability within the community and also google
