Default Is there an SEO advantage to onsite interlinking?

I can't remember where I read this, maybe Dan Thies? I read somewhere that part interlinking your site's pages should be an on page seo strategy. Is there any truth to this, and should I be doing this with my blogs that aside from all the posts, only have an about me, contact me, and privacy policy page?
Thanks

Only to the effect that it allows bots to accurately crawl your site.

Page sculpting died awhile ago.

I use keywords in the URL's of internal links because it makes sense to the users. I suppose there could be a tiny bit of benefit as it helps the bots know more about the pages... but I believe it could also be contrued as a bad thing if the urls are just stuffed with keywords.

Look at the URL's that WordPress creates automatically from Title Tags... they are keyword rich and don't seem to cause any problems.

Make your site as user friendly as possible and focus on offsite SEO.

navigation text links, breadcrumb links, Subject area links, and Individual page links onsite can help if done correctly but do not play as big as role in onsite seo as once did. My main focus and what works phenomenal is offsite seo

Ok..I see. What exactly are breadcrumb links? I have heard this term before, but don't know what it is.

I think it depends more on the type of site that you have. If it is for instance a micro niche site, I don't think that it matters very much. But with a huge site that you are trying to gain authority to it is important.

From what I have seen and tested if a sites domain has a nice PR you can easily rank new pages for some of the less competitive keywords simply by linking to the new page from the home page. I have also noticed that links in text help a bit more than just having a sidebar link to the specified page.

As I said though, I have only tried this on a larger site with hundreds of pages. For anything with less than say 100 pages I don't think it matters much. Besides, if you are building blogs Wordpress pretty much handles all of this for you.

Breadcrumbs are those links that tell you which page you are on and give the links to the pages above that page you're on. For example...you might see this in the top or bottom of the page....

Trees > Shade Trees > Oak Trees

So if you are on the page "Oak Trees" you have the option of two other links that take you back to main page or shade tree section.

Ok, that makes lots of sense. I probably wouldn't need to do that for my little microniche sites. Thanks Embions!

Kay King, thanks for that clarification! Yes I know what you are talking about. My wordpress blog does this. Thanks!
