Default Wikipedia Backlinks

Anyone ever thought of editing wikipedia entries and adding a link to one of your sites?

Seems that if it was a relevant site, and didn't have to hard of a sell on the homepage/landing page, that this would fly.

Anyone do this? Was your wikipedia account flagged?

I know you can edit the "References" section of wikipedia entries without being signed into an account.

Just food for thought.

Hi tman563,

I did it for 2 of my sites in the zombie niche and now have links from 7 different Wikipedia pages. It works well if the site you are linking to isn't "overly commercial"and has solid and relevant info without a direct pitch anywhere on the page.

I tried adding a link for an affiliate marketing site, but the link was rejected within minutes, most probably because that specific page is constantly being abused by spammers.

The recipe is -> GREAT SITE + RELEVANCY = MAYBE GETTING A LINK FROM WIKIPEDIA:-)

Cheers,

Josip

Hi,

I've got several Wiki links back to a couple of my sites which have great content and no Ads at all. I tried also with a similar site but with Adsense on and it got rejected.

So, good quality content at the start and add the Ads later is my advice.

Cheers

You can add links.
They probably will get deleted.
They are nofollow, so they don't count
as a real backlink to google.

Your link could stay up long enough to get
a good amount of traffic.

Wikipedia links give you a ton of traffic -- even from obscure little entries that you think nobody reads.

Also, lots of sites scrape wikipedia, so if your link stays on the page long enough, you get additional backlinks from those sites.

The problem is: people can easily delete your links from Wikipedia. Your competitors will delete them.

Having a number of links deleted can knock your google ranking for a loop. It can do some real damage.

Best thing to do is to add about 10 links -- in the form of references -- to a Wikipedia page, and slip your link in among them.

Do you people even read any posts???????
Google would NEVER see the friggin links in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(As if that really mattered to the nonsense info anyway)

How 'bout this. I'll give my competitors a whole bunch of unseen
links, then delete them. Boom! I'm tops now!

How about you take a moment to read my post.

Google most certainly does see some of the links. If you'll jump off your high horse for a moment and reread what I wrote, you will learn why this is so.

You obviously don't even read your posts.

How does google care about a deleted nofollow link??????

I don't know, people.

But that's not the half of it. Like I said. I'll give you a bunch of
nofollow links, delete them, and send you de-indexing into
oblivion. Sure....

Google could care less what people put on wikipedia. period.

Someone else put my link on a wikipedia page. I get at least 10 super-targeted visitors each day from this one link. May not seem like a lot, but it all adds up. And I'd way rather have 10 very targeted visitors then 1,000 visitors who couldn't care less about my site.

Getting links on wikipedia isn't difficult but it is time-consuming. A link is good because the people who are on wikipedia are people who want to read a webpage. So if you are looking for followers to your blog, who will want to read your posts - then wikipedia links are great. The mods are very good at getting rid of spam links. For the sites I have wikipedia links to, I get an average of 30 people a day per link.

Here are some tips

1. Don't go through wikipedia adding links in one go. For example, suppose you have a website about capital cities - don't go to the London page and add your link, then going to the Paris page adding a link, then onto the Berlin... and so on. All your links will be deleted about 15mins later.

2. Don't post a link to a page that is just sales copy, has loads of ads, or offers nothing new (content that isn't already covered on the wikipedia page).

3. If you create a new page (so you can put your link at the bottom) wait for a while before posting the link. That is, come back a week or so later and post it.

4. If you create a new page, don't create it in isolation to others. This is a red flag for wiki mods. A genuine page will be linked to loads of other pages. If you want to create a new page, so your link fits the content, add some more information to an existing page. That is, improve on an existing page by adding more content. Come back a few days later and create a new page (that fits your link) and link to it from the content you previous added.

For example: You have a blog about a hair removal product. So you go to the hair removal page of wikipedia. Then add some new content to one of the sections, say, "Cultural and Sexual aspects". You add a paragraph of copy about how hair removal in a public place like a shopping mall is now culturally acceptable in the US or UK in the form of "Threading". Link the word "threading" to the threading page on wikipedia. A few days later, add some copy to the threading page about the social acceptability of threading in public places like malls. A few days later, add a link to your blog about the social phenomenon of threading in shopping malls.

5. If your link is deleted, post a new one up. I have had links removed by one mod, posted it again and its been up for months, is deleted again and I put it back up. Or create a similar page and post that link.

Because human moderators are deleting the links, some links will go quickly and some won't. The secret is to make your links looks as natural as possible.

Im in a niche without lots of competition (one product, and most of it's affiliates are not knowledgeable about IM)

Also, I intend on developing an authority site, since there doesnt seem to be one in the niche yet. I guess I could start the authority site with no autorepsonder series, and no affiliate links. Add a wikipedia link (which should be fine for a content based authority site), then add the affiliate stuff to the site later
