Article Directory Feeds

I'm wondering if anyone has tried using feeds from article directories to create adsense sites?

IF so, does this work? Or do you find that your site is always ranking behind the original article and therefore not getting traffic.

I've only ever used article directories as either a source of content for my sites (on a limited basis only); and to contribute to to get backlinks.

If this were 2004 the answer as to whether it works would be 'sometimes', in 2008 the answer is don't waste your time.
