Hi, I have recently tried to sell one of my domains which I thought was a PR6 because everything from Google Toolbar to Pr Checker had told me so. But someone has told me that if info:site.com search on Google doesn't show a result, then it's fake PR. Is this true? I have typed the domain name into several other search engines and it seems to be fine. Any thoughts? Thanks |

First, the toolbar will not give a true PR. The toolbar misleads a lot of people who don't know what the toolbar is actually for. Since that's the title of your thread, it seems you are more concerned with the toolbar rank. Are you sure you actually checked it with a reliable PR checker, like prchecker.info? Other search engines have nothing to do with google's pagerank. Domains don't have PR, websites do. Paul |

If you can share the URL here, we can tell you more accurately about it.

Hi Guys, Yeah I checked it with PRchecker.org and it claims it's a valid PR6, along with 5 other Net tools. The site is AO4U.com. They told me it was false because info:AO4U.com checked out as a redirect and that the links had disappeared. |

Kirk's comment is interesting....there seems to be a lot of confusion in this area ie whether PR is URL or website. So many people think it is just the website. Thanks Kirk for the clarification.

There's no confusion, now that we know the rest of the story. When a site expires, the PR goes away. Since PR is only updated 5 times a year, or so, next update it will have no PR. It does not go away right away, but it eventually it will. In other words, the PR checkers are not lying. They are giving you PR as of last update. The toolbar is highly unreliable. I'll bet someone else is going to add more to this, but you cannot keep the PR of an expired domain. I suppose anything is possible, but highly unlikely. Like I said first, domains do not get PR, websites, er...urls do. Paul |
