Hey guys, the older members and the ones that have been using MNF ( Micro niche finder ) probably know this but still this might be useful to some. I urge you not to rely solely on SOC or exact search when looking at any given keyword or phrase. I have found literaly hundreds of keywords with 3-5 PR0 and very week top10 sites ( forums, articles etc ) for words with global search of over 3000 ( all the way to 14900 ). I would not have found them if I only searched for green SOC and exact under 20 000 lets say. I would have found maybe 30% of them. I now look at all SOC under 200 and dont even bother with the exact count to much. I double check every word in Market samurai to see how the top10 really stack up. You will be amazed. I know I was... Hope this helps. Sincerely. Base |

Yes, good advice. You should always factor in as many variables as possible. MS & MNF combined provide a good set of things to consider. GL |

The Top 10 or maybe 20 at Google is your only real competition anyway. So yeah, I might look at SOC as a starting point, but I won't let it keep me away from a good keyword if the other numbers are strong. Good advice! John |

So Bajsich... Are you considering local or just global. How are you using MNF then? To you set it to broad match? |

I always check the global search count. Exact not broad. My initial restrictions were over 1500 global and soc green along with under 30 000 exact, but that has all changed, so now I do put in some extra time backchecking with market samurai but its worth it. Today I even tried a bit of web 2.0 tactics I started out with in the first place ( prior to static sites ) and got a site with 3600 global search count from total scratch to up, indexed and ranked #4 all within 3 hours....Now just have to put some more juice behind it OH and might i add SOC on MNF was 116.

Well not completely, there's always a smattering of up and coming sites in the lower SERPs...all of my first page sites ranked much lower than 50 on the SERPs when they first launched. |

Good timing! I would repeatedly find keywords where the SOC was off the chart when the top ten was comfortably beatable. Its only until this week I decided that the only real way to know for sure is to test it. Put up a few sites this week and ill see what happens. I think a manual review of the competition is always what you should base your final decision on anyway, not a tool. |
