Default Adding an RSS feed to twitter - good/bad move for SEO/Twitter etiquette?

Hi

I'm a Twitter newbie, but thought it'd be a good idea to liven up the account of a set of people who want to reach a crowd interested in independent new music - am volunteering for them to try and build some knowledge.

im currently building followers manually using 'find people' and entering my terms. Also just signed up for twollow.

I thought it may be a good idea to pad out my tweets with an RSS feed from somewhere, cause although they are industry pros,im not and dont have much quality stuff to post - i dont want to sell right away whilst im building followers either.

This isnt a bum marketing project - im volunteering for an organisation, so i wont find a rubbish rss feed or a sales feed, nor will i go for a feed from a music label or a site selling/promoting music in particular.

i will look for an individual rss feed from a blog or some other news resource.

for those people experienced with twitter - is this a bad move seo/twitter-etiquette wise?

This would be a good move IF you manage to get a high quality RSS feed that would be of interest to your target audience. One way to go about this is to look for authority sites or blogs in your topic and then get the feeds from those sites. Another quick way would be to create google alerts with appropriate keyword filters and then feed them to your twitter account. Make sure to drip feed your tweets at a proper interval to ensure that the content is high quality and review them yourself before you put your automation into full gear.

You're welcome. When you use RSS feeds, its important to ensure that the tweets have valuable content and are from reliable sources. Note that bad content is worse than no content and can damage your profile and make users unfollow you quickly. If you use an automation tool, make sure that it has the ability to filter tweets being posted and supports exclusion of tweets by keywords so you can fine tune your posts.

not heard of this til I just looked it up now - would this maybe be a bit risky because you dont want other peoples promotional stuff being posted out onto your twitter, and depending on your niche this might be the bulk of google search results?

I totally agree that setting up automated tweets from quality feeds is a great idea to offer more quality content to your Twitter followers - Just make sure you're using reputable blogs/sites.

However, I do think you should see to it that these RSS tweets don't outnumber your own tweets - They should complement your own content, not take over your Twitter stream.
