hey i recently switched the design of my website and it has dropped in rank the next day, i still have the cached version of the previous look. Could the changing of the design have anything to do with it's rank in search engines? Would you recommend me switching the design back to the way it was?

Yes...I know people will disagree, and that's fine (so long as they know, deep down, they are wrong). It can/does/will happen that changes to design effects serp. It has been observed many, many times. The going hypothesis is that you have changed some/all of the markup, and thus changed some of what the spider "sees". It may not be significant, but enough to alert to a change none the less. The good news is, in my experience, it is usually temporary. For the time being, I would just keep doing what you are doing and it will usually recover relatively quickly. |
