Hey warriors, I am starting with PPC, and instead of starting with Google (I did try in 2007), I am testing the water with Yahoo and MSN adcenter. I thought it would be easier, but I just bidded 0.78 on a keyword to find I'm on page 4! Do you pay expensive clicks on MSN? And if you have any Tip, just list it here! Franck |

It sounds like you are bidding on a very broad keyword .. also, you have no history.. their ranking system is not based solely on bid price, they use many variables to determine where your ad is displayed.. try narrowing your keywords to something more specific, you'll get more visitors at less cost and you'll build your click history and get a higher overall CTR, and your cost per click will go down.. Use phrase or exact match, stay away from broad match Personally I've found that Adcenter traffic converts at a much higher % than does adwords and that's based on the same niches. Adwords has a lot more traffic and you can still make more money.. but I've not seen many niches where the conversion is higher on Adwords .. Dave |

Thanks Dave, All the other search engines seem to have a quality score now. I'm doing what I would have done with adwords, so my quality score should be fine. And as you said I have no history, my account is brand new. Thanks again for the excellent advice. |

Use the core/parent adgroup keyword three times in the ad text and display URL. Bid on all three match types for every keyword/keyphrase: broad, phrase, and exact. Bid higher on terms that have been converting well. If continual ad performance improvement is one of your goals, on campaign settings, change Ad Serving to “Rotate: Show ads more evenly” from the default “Optimize: Show better performing ads more often. Then A/B split test your ads. putonyourgoggles as a way to beat the google slap and get great quality score |

Thanks Strauss, I will look into this one: “Rotate: Show ads more evenly”, and I'll start split testing. This is the essential part of any advertising campaign. All the best, Franck ==> Another question: On MSN what did you think work best, Squeeze page or direct linking for affiliate promotions? |

Hi, From my experience even direct linking to affiliate promotions works very good at AdCenter. In most of my campaigns, the CPC is a little more on AdCenter than on AdWords, but the conversion rate, using the same keywords and ads, is often better on AdCenter. Is not always so, it depends, of course, on the niche you are advertising. |
