Hi guys I am an internet marketing newbie so please bear with me. I have great creative savvy, but virtually zero technical awareness. I hope this question makes sense and isn't too vague. I am currently running with a niche idea. I've plugged it into Market Samurai and its coming back with SEOC over 100k and low SEOT. Some of these websites have high figures for backlinks and high IC. However, the comp just seem to be providing information, whereas I am looking at providing information, services and products. Therefore is the competition relevant, as I am looking to offer something very different? Many thanks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Notechlady8 |

When you are researching keywords you want to use in Market Samurai, don't consider overall product vs overall product What you should be looking at is keyword vs keyword Eg, your product may be different, but if the keyword you want to use is that same keyword that someone else is using for a slightly different product then the competition for that particular keyword still exists, regardless of product type Consider expanding, slightly changing or making your keywords more specific or longer-tail Best of luck Steve |

Steve's right - the strength of competition based on keywords is what Google uses to rank your site. It doesn't know that your product is better than the competition's. That said SEO isn't the only way to drive traffic to your website. If it looks like there is a market for your product based on your research then you could try PPC, article marketing, offline marketing etc to drive traffic to your website. |

"I've plugged it into Market Samurai and its coming back with SEOC over 100k and low SEOT." You want that the other way round - high traffic and low competition. There are millions of niches so keep looking, do not get sucked into a site due to your "creativity". |
