Why this site is ranked so well? - with only 5 PR0 backlinks and bad SEO

Well first this is a niche site I created, before I started learning about keyword research and seo.

The site is www.selectingcarinsurance.com. It's ranked 8 in google (keyword : selecting car insurance), despite bad seo and about 5 backlinks (all with PR0 on domain).

I've paid no attention to this site the last few months as very few searches for that keyword.

This site has a canonical url issue, among other bad things for ranking

This site is made with static html.

I compare this to another niche site I have. Which have over 160 backlinks. the site have recently become PR3, but still it's ranked about #40 in the SERP.

I think it the reason can be that my second site is created in asp.net, which isn't good for seo. asp.net adds an extra 1kb on each page as viewstate and bunch of other stuff (like async javascript call)

I'm about to redo the #40 site in php, think that can help ranking. Giveme better control of the seo stuff.

any suggestions?

Your making it to complicated. Sure - it's bad SEO - but you don't know if that niche is competitive or not. I'm betting it isn't, therefore, that is why is he ranking so high.

Hey loginname,

The keyword "selecting car insurance" is not very competitive (17000 in quotes), and gets very little searches per month. So it's possible to rank high for keywords like this, despite lack of much SEO.

It also helps that you have the keyword "selecting car insurance" in your title tag, description, and "car insurance" in the domain name.

However, I wouldn't focus too much on optimizing for that keyword, and look for more keywords that get much higher search volume (which you can check in google adwords keyword tool), and has a high commercial value.

Select 2 or 3 primary keywords which get relatively high search volume, and use those for your title tag for your main domain.

Despite all this, building quality backlinks is mandatory for achieving great rankings.

Your question is like comparing apples to oranges. You have one site that ranks well because competition is low, while your other niche site ranks on page 40? What is the other niche? How many pages are competing for the top spot?

This is like saying well my page for XYZ ranks number 1 but my page for make money online sits at 514...

Thanks for explaing how to get the number of competitors. This site has as you say about 17.000 competitors. The asp.net niche site (different keyword) of mine has 1.400.000 competing pages. Thought that explain a few things about why it's ranked #40.

You say nothing about monetization.

I assume this is a post to get a website more traffic.

I would also assume with those so-called keywords,
you are not monetizing.

This thread with my addition of car insurance for bad monkeys
will be #1 in less than 15 minutes for those "keywords".

These parlor tricks of showing a website with very selective
keywords ranking high is getting old.

Show me a highly monetized site, real world searched keywords, etc.
and this thread becomes moot.

You've answered your own question. To truly have a site worth a hill
of beans takes hard, long work.

You obviously could care less about this site, and somehow you think
other people really do because in your searches it comes up.

It doesn't work that way.

it doesn't matter the backlinks have PR0. and anyway,you can't see all the backlinks

I think the backlinks must be aged or coming from high authority sites.
