Default Ranking for LongTail Terms Long Term

This question is directed @ ppl who have experience with getting traffic to their sites from long tail keywords.

I've tried longtail in the past with WP, however I noticed that the pages would rank decently well on Google, but then after 1 - 2 weeks fall off Google and the traffic disappears. Then I post a few new articles, the traffic picks up, and the cycle repeats.

How do you keep the articles ranked up there for months - years? I'm quite certain most people do not lb their posts. Is there a good interlinking script that you can add to the bottom of each post for WP (not the random posts selection, but one that keeps the posts the same if one refreshes the page).

Thanks.

It is a matter of getting Google to rate your page as one of the important pages for that keyword.

That requires getting valued links back to your page.

It also helps if you have 'new' content on your page every once in a while. It doesn't have to be additional content. It can be rewritten content - just something so that Google does not consider the page stale and abandoned.

Can anyone recommend a good interlinking structure for a website?

This is assuming the homepage of the site is packed with link juice already - you just want to share the luv.

Are there any simple WP plugins that do this or do I just do it manually?

Personally I watch my SERP rankings very closely and work on the system, if a ranking went down within 24 hours, then I need to build some more links to re-rank for that keyword, most of the time I end up noticing something drop, then end up gaining to a higher placement I was before, which is always good.

From my experience I can say that you need backlinks pointing to the inner pages.

For few days you see on first page because of new and fresh content. But Google actually gives value to content which has more incoming links. Backlink is the key for getting good ranking in Google.
