I am trying to decide which domain name is better. I'm basically wanting to know if the dot com domain is preferred over the dot net or dot org even though it has way fewer searches, but less competing sites: #1 : This domain is three words and has 1000 mo. search volume and 99 competing sites. I can get the dot com for this domain. #2: This domain has three words also, but longer length and 6600 mo. searches and 925 competing sites. I can only get dot net or dot org. The dot com is for sale for around $1500 (not in my budget!). Thanks so much for your opinions! |

What do you mean by 'way fewer searches'? Google indexes on content and links, not on the TLD.

Are those exact searches? Personally, I'd go for the one that has more search volume per month.

Got to agree with Jason, I'd go for both, set one as an alias and monitor your traffic. You only need get it for a year and the lesser performing one, drop it after then. Buy with any luck you'll be raking it in after a year so can afford to renew them both!

No TLD's can beat .com domain name. They are still the best and are always preferred by all the people around the world.

Thank you for your opinions! I guess it would be smart to get both, and test them. |

I have tried some .org domains and .com domains with dashes and they rank above exact match .com domains. So I'd say it is the quality of your onsite and offsite SEO that matters.

i'd get both. but just so you know search engines treat com / net / org the same as far as i understand. depending what kind of site it is i'd gladly use a .net over paying $1500 for a .com

Completely agree with the above people, get them both. Or, let me know which one you don't get and I will buy it. |

That has not been my experience. If you want to paint your truck with your url, a .com is always best, but if you are doing adsense or affiliate sites it makes no difference. Most people out there will not scout the front page of Google and pick the .com's. And as far as ranking, IME, all the tld's are equally good. ( Have no experience with other extensions) Personally I would not bother with something that get 1000 searcehs per month unless the CPC is VERY high and there are tons of related longtails one could easily rank for. But, we all do hings our own way, and most of it works if you stick with it. Evita | |
