I can still see them right below the search bar. Tinier, but still there

I can see why they'd want to fine tune their algorithms, but why their plain old layout? Simpler is better, with search engines...don't fix what ain't broke.

I think whats more worrying is the "shopping results" within the SERPS...huge blow for everyone here.

Still it is better for the searcher so cant complain......

Is it really, though? I guess it helps divide up commercial from non commercial sites...maybe. But still, when I'm looking to buy something online I just put "buy" before whatever it is I'm looking for.

how many people really go to google.com and how many just type stuff into their browser search bar.

I always use my search bar. I only use google.com when I'm doing super secret IM stuff.

I don't think the shopping results are that big of a deal. They don't even give shopping results for WSO, Backlinks or SEO so most of you are safe

Synthesize me, And reboot, I need to start again, I need to make it different

If I have to define the new Google design, it has to be "disgusting". The text is much more smaller, font color is lighter which makes it difficult to quickly analyze the search results.

The sidebar is the worst part.

The number is still there. It's directly below the search bar, and in plain text instead of the old sky-blue. Its always been a rough estimate, they just added 'about' to show you that its a rough estimate. That doesn't mean its way off, it just means that if there are 587,043,462 sites on a certain keyword, that it will round it to 587,000,000.

As I understand it, the shopping resuts lists products on websites that is connected to a price.

This will be a conflict for us who write reviews of typical "shopping" products.

If somebody wants to buy something, they will not find my review, as I do not have products listed with price. But as with most functions, most people do not know about it or use it.

It does look ugly. Simple == better when it comes to search engines (IMO).

Time to get my sites listed under "shopping" results.

It has always said "about", that is not new, and it's always been a "rough estimate" (not rounded) based on a small sample dataset and could be off by as much as 40% in some cases.

Yeah a little bit of logic!

And the number of results as a number has always been meaningless.
I don't know why people are hung up on that. They may find about
50,000,000 sites, but google will only care about the first 1-2,000,
if that. You would never ever get to that 50,000,000th site. Not
even the 1,000,000th site. I wish they would not even quote such
a number, or narrow it down to the sites that really matter. Then
you'd see a number in the 5,000 range.

I do not like this change also, however, have you noticed any changes in Serps for your keywords? Many webmasters say there are some algo changes also, is this true?

REALLY?! Now that WILL suck! I do use MNF extensively with MS to check competition, but of course I go into Google to manually check it as well.

I saw that Google Caffeine has been implemented on 80% of the data servers, perhaps that is more relevant to the ranking changes.

Can you mention only TWO at least so that we can x check it with our teams. No need to be afraid of changes. Whatever Google does, it does it for quality. If you're a quality web marketer, you don't need to do anything.

A couple days went and I feel this new look is more of a "software" than the old plain Google.

And the Results # is still there.

It would have been better received had the either put the everything, shopping etc. as links at the top of the page or as an optional slide out bar like the "Show search tools" tab.

P.S. If you found my post useful, please click the "Thanks" button below...

The new site design sucks. It wasn't broke, so why the hell did they fix it. It just amazes me how much Google does that I don't like, and from what I see, many others don't like too. O well, what you gonna do?

It's okay to dislike change. After all, most of us are human.

But I think you're confusing steps to advancing forward with fixing something that is broken. They are two different actions.

Since Google is a business entity, it makes perfect sense that they test, make changes where they deem appropriate, adapt to the present time and make changes in preparation for the foreseeable future whether they are leading the industry in a new direction, or maintaining their position at the top. If they didn't do these things, they wouldn't be in the position they are in today.

It just baffles me that such a large majority think that the people behind Google just decided, on a whim, to toss up a sidebar without thinking about the benefits and drawbacks. Hello? They've been testing alternative interface ideas for quite some time. Obviously they have found the current one is worthy of being rolled out on a large scale.

Think about it.

-Peace

My guess, Bing is making a dent in their commanding lead in search and this is a hamhanded first attempt to nip that problem in the bud.

Maybe, maybe not. A review site isn't necessarily a shopping site, BTW.

Also, this change is making me consider trying dropshipping again, something I'd given up on about 4 years ago.

I agree with what you're saying although the real problem is that the change in the display of the number of search results breaks any SEO tool (SEOElite, Market Samurai, MNF, SEOQuake, etc.) that relied on it, which is virtually all of them. This will make it tougher to do an analysis of multiple related keywords at once.
