Default How can I change my Blogs domain name without damaging my SERPS and PR?

Hello Warriors, I rarely open new threads because as I have mentioned before, my husband vehemently prohibits I ask stupid questions (he tells me he can answer those, LOL.) But, I have to ask this to help us a bit. I have a blogspot Blog and I recently purchased my own domain name with hopes of making that my new site. Now, I know I have said here before my husband does SEO work, however it is my blog and I want to be 100% certain that he won't leave any details unattended...!!!

So here is my question:

How can I change the Domain name of my blog from the current FREE blogspot name to the new purchased domain without affecting the SEO work we have done, my SERPS and the PR it has already obtained? I just want a second opinion so that I can ensure the change will have NO or little Negative effect on the current status.

Please advise me!!! THANKS Warriors!!!
Dana

Don’t get worried about so simple problem.

I am here for you. First go to WHM, then Account functions and at last to option of Modify as account. Here you can easily change the domain name in your account.

Just keep in mind that you must not change the username because it could break your script configuration as the username is used by the database.

And you can be sure that this change will not affect the existing statistics. You have to just check that the domain name is whether parked and addon or not.

It must be late, but what does that have to do with the OP's question????

----------------

To change to your own domain name is a simple task, but the SEO part could get tricky. Especially if you have a lot of links pointing to the original Blogspot url. It will be hard to re-point those links to a new domain name. And you can't really 301-redirect the blogspot to your domain.

It is good to have your own domain though, so you should make the switch. You could just start the new site on your domain and start fresh with new material. Then on the old site, add a link and push all the PR juice to your new site. Keep the old site active so that all the incoming links pass through (so to speak).

Hi Dana,

If you do this by going to your Publishing options inside blogger and choose the option to change from blogspot to custom name (using CNAME), blogger will automatically ensure that all traffic from blogspot is redirected to your new domain name and PR will also be preserved.

I did this last year for a blogspot blog and everything went pretty smoothly.

Cheers,
Suzanne

Hi Dana

Follow Suzannes advice and you'll be fine. By the way, you will always lose a little bit of rank when you move a site and perform a redirect, but very minimal. Ensure it's a 301 redirect or if this is not possible, VegasGreg's idea is a good idea as it gets you links to your new domain.

Hi Suzanne Ive been to worried about doing this as my blog just recently reached the 1st page of google but it seems you're certain it is as simple as it looks

i.e just pay the $10 and you can do the custom domain for everything to automatically make a smooth transition to your new custom domain.

Also are you aware of this issue

of the www.mypage.com showing the custom domain blog

but the mypage.com without the ''www'' not showing it ?
