Default Big Betting Website SEO

Hi guys,

I'm doing some research on the betting.ladbrokes.com site and this is my question:

The homepage requires optimisation. Maximum how many links could be placed on the website and why - What does Google say?

Be interested to hear your thoughts!

Robin

I'm not sure I quite get your question. Are you asking what is the maximum number of links a page should have before it effects seo and looks like a linkfarm?

Not sure if anybody can give you a good answer but here are some random sites and there internal / external link counts. I don't think the link count for betting.ladrokes is an issue.

smashingmagazine.com :
Internal / External Link Totals 156 / 27

betting.ladrokes.com
Internal / External Link Totals 162 / 15

seo.com
Internal / External Link Totals 53 / 4

101waystomakemoney.com
Internal / External Link Totals 65 / 3

webdesign.org
Internal / External Link Totals 120 / 21

icanhascheezburger.com
Internal / External Link Totals 125 / 184

espn.com
Internal / External Link Totals 6 / 259

Internal links, your probably not going to see any penalty and outbound links you could probably go as high as 100 without breaking a sweat.

Synthesize me, And reboot, I need to start again, I need to make it different

Thank you Jason for honoring my question with your 1000th post woooo wooo wooo!!! Balloooooonnnnsss from the sky.

Anyway I appreciate your feedback. It's tricky because this is a question that was given to me as part of a job interview process for Ladbrokes. It is a job that is a bit out of my reach in terms of technical knowledge and SEO so going to can it.

I sometimes think that they deliberately write them in an ambiguous manner

I wonder if you made all your outbound links, especially banners, "nofollow", if that would make a difference?

Anybody know?

nofollow has nothing to do with outbound or internal links.
Why would you not want to pass on PR to your own pages,
and the other pages probably have a PR higher anyway.
That's using nofollow in a way it was not designed for.

Google says to keep links on a page to 100 or less.

There is no law. You can place as many links as you can humanly stuff.

If it is a directory or like one, better to have just the main categories
listed, hyperlinked to the page with those links in each category.
That would be easier for a surfer and gentler on the eyes.

lol well said, and the ladbrokes site does need some work, not just because there are too many links on that page, because it looks pants lol !

Be a good idea to move the categorys below the menu bar at the top, each would have its own page then just my 5 pence worth, do i get a job at ladbrokes now lol !
