Default Need to change my keyword in profiles, any dangers of doing that?

Hey there,

I made a major mistake in my keyword research for one of my websites and I now need to adjust things up and would need to add a word to the anchor text in my forum profiles.

I don't have too much of them, maybe around 175, but I'm wondering if changing them all in a short period of time could get me in trouble with G.

I know there is a lot of people who will say that G. punishes you every time you wear black underwear, while in reality you can do much more than most people will say without problems, but I guess I just wanted to double check with you guys.

Of course it looks unnatural, but is it enough to get any kind of trouble?

What kind of change do you need to make? What is your sites current situation?

Is your site already ranking well? Don't mess with 'em. Are you #999? You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Are we talking changing "dog" to "puppy dog", in that case I'd just leave 'em alone and get some new backlinks with your preferred anchor text.

If it something like you're selling "pepsi" and used "coke" as your anchor text, in that case I'd change them.

Kinda depends on if your current anchor text has any relevance to what you want your site to rank for. With the first example you could potentially rank for 'dog' and 'puppy dog' but with the second example you're not doing your site any good at all.

In the end, when you screw up (we all do), you need to bite the bullet, fix up your mistakes and move on. You might get a temporary slap on the wrist but I don't think your going to see any serious long term effects.

Expect the worst, if you can handle your site disappearing for three months then go for it. I don't think this will happen but if you go into it expecting the worst then you'll be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't happen.

Synthesize me, And reboot, I need to start again, I need to make it different

It's more along the lines of your puppy dog example, so I'll take your advice, leave them alone and just continue building new links with the prefered anchor text. In the end, the first profiles aren't lost, just less targeted.

You can as well change 50 of them in one week, 50 in next and so on...

Besides links in profiles are not indexed so fast, there is no worry that You get punished for this.

Time wasted chasing after spilled milk. In the time you can fix the alledged broken ones, you could have 300 more of the ones you desire - probably far more.

most all decent backlinks discussion is now being had over on the backlinksforum.com site .... since wf now degrades and frowns upon automated backlink ideas and systems.

If you werent doing these by hand - manually and painstakenly - you likely wouldnt even be asking this question.

I know the feeling - ive placed my share of manual backlinks and fought hard for them and toiled [ foolishly ] for hrs.

rip the rear view mirror out and move forward
