Is Google Updating Pagerank? Mine Went Down Anyone Know Whats Going On?

My page rank was a 2 I was shooting for a 3 or hopefully a 4 on their next update which I thought was in the beginning of July.

I checked my pagerank and I was shocked to see it is now a 1. I have tons of quality backlinks etc... I hope it is just a bug in the system because I have tried 4 different pagerank checkers and they all say the same thing.

I am gonna be mad if this holds up. Anyone know whats going on? If they are updating pagerank? A bug? ETC...

Weird enough I just noticed earlier that the toolbar pr showed some of my newer pages at PR 0 instead of N/A and some of these were only posted a few days back so not really sure on this one. I have seen some minor fluctuations in the past prior to the 3-4 month span of actual updates, but I was never really sure if it was just a minor glitch or some random roll out of changes.

If anyone else has any insight I'd be interested in hearing as well.

My home of wonderful 140 character or less sentences called Tweets gor PR today so I think something happpened.

Though Google do update the PR internally all the time and it isn't abnormal to see new sites get a PR of 0 before the actual public are released the PR data.

Maybe this time around Google slipped up and some of the data is leaked.

B.S all that hard work building links etc, for nothing. I was google slapped Alexa 400,000 rating tons of backlinks and and I was downgraded from a 2 to a 1 that is ridiculous it should be a 4.

I understand you are frustrated, but I wouldn't get too worked up about it just yet. There is still no solid proof that this is an actual PR update (which I am doubtful of based on other sites I frequent and manage)

Also what gives you the impression you should be a 4? What type of backlinkns do you have that would warrant a jump. Are your backlinks on high PR pages? And if so are those links even followed?

There could be a number of reasons for this, but without more info I am not sure I can give you a completely accurate answer.

You better start figuring out wh ythey degraded your site instead of trying to curse them for doing because you think it should be better.

I'd advise to stop doing whatever you're doing to build backlinks and get some link bait backlinks. They're the best.

I do not think it should be better I know it should be better check out my site for yourself. I know what I am doing a lot of my backlinks are through article submissions, blog commenting on high pageranked blogs etc... No spam of any sort there is no reason for my blog to be degraded its B.s and a lot of my backlinks are do follow. Who cares its ok I am just gonna concentrate on my traffic etc.... Everything else is secondary Google can do what they want its all about the money,sales anyways lol .

If I may offer some thoughts on this subject, since the end of last year Google has openly and repeatedly advised that it was going to change it algorithms in January citing a shift from the importance of keyword, keyword phrases back links etc to dynamic content / feature rich content, site speed, image load speed and regional content. Why I make mention of this is that it is with great surprise that in my own business and on many forums such as this that web site owners /webmasters have somehow failed to take these changes into consideration. Another example would be the recent report from Forrester Research that shows you are more likely to get a number 1 page result by using a video, in fact they say you are more likely to increase your chances by 53 times. All of these changes however big or small have to be taken into consideration if you want to keep good positions and PR. Just my two cents worth.

Yes, google are update the PR since yesterday. However, the PR might not be accurate during the updating, normally it take about 3 days, then it is the final PR for your site

Google is only showing up 16 links to your site and I was only able find a PR2 page. Of course you have many more links but Google did not think they were important enough to show up.

If you really want a high PR, you need to get links from high PR pages which usually include the homepage of a domain.

You have to decide whether traffic or PR is more important to you. You are probably doing the right thing for traffic. If you want a high PR, all you need is to buy homepage links from 3 or more PR6 sites and your site should achieve PR4 or PR5.

I am only seeing 117 results in google: site:jaysonlinereviews.com - Google Search

16 backlinks in google: link:jaysonlinereviews.com - Google Search

And 479 backlinks according to yahoo:

And many of those are coming from the warrior forum.

Now, I know, none of those tools are necessarily 100% accurate and using the link: operator in google is not going to give you all the backlinks they actually count for you, but these are good indications that the numbers you think you have are simply not correct.

Not trying to take the wind form your sails on this one, just wanted to help you understand. Also I would not worry about PR too much, yes it has some importance, but do not obsess over it. If you keep providing good content on your subject you will get the eyes and links you need.

I didn't know anyone actually looked for link numbers in Google??

Thankfully, everyone knows that what Google shows for backlinks is 100% garbage. On most sites you are lucky if it shows 1% of the links that yahoo site explorer shows. What incentive does google have to show you the true backlink number? Do you really think they want to help the arms' race any more?

I'm not sure what keywords you are targeting, but I think that may be a bit of overkill.

If you use a tool like MNF, it gives you a measure of backlinks (MOB), I wouldn't say use this as the Gospel but I tend to use this to figure out the average number of backinks I need to rank for a keyword. IMO 65,000 is wayy too much.

Remember, quality of quantity.

Don't worry about PR, that's the icing on the cake, focus on traffic, PageRank is a 'nice to have'!

I can't believe that people are reading into the numbers that Google provide for backlinks. I thought every man and his dog was using Yahoo Site Explorer?! Taking numbers from Google is way off, as they have always followed strict guidelines towards disclosing links both publicly and also to site owners themselves.

I did clarify in my post that these are not the total links. But the OP seems to be interested in PR only and the links showing up in Google could well be the ones that are most important in giving PR to his site.

Going to have to strongly disagree with this assertion. Google is very odd about the links that it does and does not include in its "link" search, and I have certainly never seen any sort of strong correlation between the ultra small percentage of links that Google does decide to show and those that pass PR. Again, I think it is a wasted exercise to ever use the "links" search.

Dont worry about it for the past 3 months i have 15,000 backlinks to edu and high pr blogs and sites on my site but yahoo says i have only 3,156 backlinks and google puts me as 0 also.whilst Bing claims i have 600 backlinks and 5 of them are edu sites, Just goes to show the search engines are taking there tme in looking and more focused on content.

For a more complete list of pages that link to yours, verify your site in Webmaster Tools and check out the link reports. Note that, although these reports are more comprehensive than a link: query, they may not include 100% of all links that you know about. This is normal and you don't need to worry about it. Webmaster Tools does not always show 100% of the links that Google knows about, so just because a particular link doesn't appear in Webmaster Tools doesn't mean that Google doesn't know about that link, or that your site isn't "getting credit" for that link.

Note that the link report in Webmaster Tools only shows whether a site is linking to yours; it doesn't show which links are most significant, and it can include links that are nofollowed or that don't pass PageRank."

Just because you built that many links doesn't mean that the search engines have or will find those links. If they can't find them then they are useful for nothing but traffic generation. Maybe you built links on pages that the hosts deny robot access to...

All that matters is what the search engine that you are targeting sees.

Some say that Google Webmaster Tools is inaccurate but these same people are following third party bots' data which knows nothing about what the Google Bot does or records.

Yahoo finding a backlink and adding it to its database has zero effect on your Google ranking.

lol... Why do you care what PR Google is giving you? You had an Alexa ranking of 400,000 yesterday with a PR2 and you have an Alexa ranking today with a PR1.

If you were a 4, what would have happened to your traffic the instant you were moved from a 2 to a 4?

Certainly linking to "bad neighborhood" sites can negatively effect a site's PR, but I definitely don't agree with this conclusion here. As someone who wons a few hundred sites of PR3+, we have lots of outbound links pointing to sites with PR0, and certainly nothing has happened to our PR.

Second, there are so many factors that go into PR, that I find it hard to believe that your friend could ascertain the exact cause (down to 1 link) of a 1 PR drop

And you know this, WHY? Don't you think this is a big jump to a shaky conclusion? How can you know that this is why it happened? There seem to have been a lot of PR drops announced here on the forum lately.

SERP ranking isn't the only way to monetize sites.

Depending on how one monetizes, pagerank can be vitally important. Furthermore, if you plan to use links from your own sites as backlinks to other sites of yours, the better the PR the better.

I was also a a PR2 last week now I have a PR0 I dont know what happend here but I do know that I purchased the domain name with that page rank. I thought that if you purchase an expiring domain with some page rank already it would stay there I guess I was wrong.

Another thing I found out a couple months ago is that Google might start using the page load speed as part of the page rank factor but I dont know how much it will affect it.

So if your speed of your page load if fast your page rank will got up but if its low your page rank will go down.

I makes sense when it comes to Googles quality search they are trying to provide searchers with pages that dont take forever to load up.
