Default No. 1 on Google with only duplicate content? Join the debate.

Links are probably the single biggest way to get on google page 1 and no. 1. So my question is. would it be easy to go no.1 is you have enough quality backlinks to your site is you only have duplicate content on. exactly how importanr is unique content for ranking well in the serps?

I'm not sure if I understood you. But, yeah, having a unique content can help us rank high in search engine. Just need to be consistent on posting unique contents regularly.

I read a case study where a site in the health niche ranked #1 in Google for a lot of very competitive search terms.

How much duplicate content? Zero. How much original content? Zero.

Yep, the site had NO CONETENT what so ever, only a page that said "This site is not available" or something like that.

That site ranked well for over 4 months, dissipeared and then reappeared in the top listings still with no content.

Back Links! They are still very powerfull

It's not really any harder to have unique content on your page that you want to rank, than it is to have duplicate content, so why not give yourself the best possible chance to rank No 1 and use unique?

So the question is would it be better to spend 1 week writing unique content or better to build backlinks for one week?

Google serves up the most relevant content, so if two sites have the same content or similar it will serve up the site which has the most backlinks.

So ultimately backlinks win over unique content. Obviously having both is best.

Tens of thousands of backlinks with duplicate content and nothing unique will give you ranking, just having unique articles and no backlinks will get you nowhere in the serps.

Having both is best. If you say copy an article from Ezinearticles you have to build enough backlinks to it to convince the engine that your site holds more authority then Ezinearticles and then worry about ranking it.

I would actually start with content here. Of course backlinks can outweight content, but that is just because there is no limit to the number of backlinks you can get.

If unique content gives you 1,000 Search Engine points per say and a low quality link gives you 1 point then you just need to build over 1,000 backlinks to have more Search Engine points and to rank higher, all things being equal.

But from a time management stand point, is it better to write 1 really good page or to copy another and build 1,000 links to it?

Of course you need both, but I would start with the content and follow it up with the backlinks. It's better to start a marathon half way through then to dig yourself out of a ditch before even starting.

Thanks for all the insight. I think I will start looking at my blog building again and start taking more time to write all original content and then build backlinks to it. It wil be an interesting test to do...

That duplicate content in and of itself is not bad.

People should realize that the music lyric sites break a whole bunch
of google-myths.

I've been giving duplicate content a different take:

Why should I not be able to take some content, package it
better, and be rewarded for doing so?

So, do people just copy material from another site and dump it on their page? What about copyright violations?

Standard on page seo first and foremost [ blog or static site? ]

Id spend the time trying to make sure the copy thats on the page was seo focused but balanced to make the reader take the desired ACTION - click adsense, buy, opt in etc ....

The rest gets handled with backlinks [ imho ] and backlinks can over come most all the rest of the sites shortcomings

Duplicate content shouldn't even be a debate. It's just as simple as staying away from it and creating unique content.

What would all the article marketing gurus infatuated with EZa now tell everyone?

1/2 these folks "unique" - quality content borders on Article Spam - or flat out is just spun spam...

The notion your site is loaded with undiscernable and usually unreadable copies of SPUN articles that also live in your eza, go, article base et al ... accounts - is not spam is a bit mind boggling.

Interesting debate.

I guess what it comes down to is if it is better to have OK content with a lot of portals (links) to get to the content or worse content with less links to get to it.

This thread takes a very complex debate and makes it really simple.

I've seen a site at #1 with only their domain as the keyword with no content. I have also seen auto blogs which would have duplicate content and they are ranking on the first page. So yes, you can rank with duplicate content with enough backlinks or your domain as the keyword sometimes.
