$97 is not so expensive if it works properly. See, I always prefer manual work than automatic. It's better to hire a freelancer.

I don't think you're alone with that, I think there are a lot of people who prefer manual labour. It's a bit like preferring to deal in cash than have a debit card, you kinda know where you are with it!

Of course, you have the option to hire a freelancer and you'll get the job done, but the problem I see with this in terms of the longer term is that if you hire an freelancer, it's going to cost you more AND you're in some ways relying on them to update your structure when you add new content. It's an on-going cost.

For me, it's about time. If there is a plug & play solution that saves me time, I'm a happy bunny! LOL

Does any one remember how to install the WordPress Silo plugin? Is it as simple as uploading it and activating it or is there some customization needed? I bought it several months ago and never touched it. Now I can't find the video or documentation of how to activate it.

Any help is appreciated!

I know this thread is pretty old, but I'm trying to find out if there are any actual positive results from this plugin. I have Googled the daylights out of it and all I find are reviews from last year. Nothing long term.

If anyone can give me a thumbs up or down on this I'd appreciate it.

Thumbs very definitely down. This kind of nofollow PR manipulation simply doesn't work like that anymore (it might have done 5 years ago). Please avoid.

Yes, I have used the plugin btw (I got it free as part of the beta testing program).

As far as I can see. The boxes that are supposed to allow the blogroll to be followed does not work. What ever I do check or uncheck the boxes and its all the same = nofollow. Is it me?

Regards

Does anyone know if the wp silo plugin would just ignore WP Pages? I can see that it would silo category posts OK but as far as I can see it would take no action with regard to any WP Pages.

Do not use Dan Rain's plugin. It uses no-follow links to create a virtual silo.

This used to work because google would ignore no-follow links.

If you had 4 links and 1 no-follow link on a page, then it used to be that 1/4 of your page's link juice would go through each link.

Nowadays, link juice basically flows through no-follow links and then into a black hole. It doesn't reach the page on the other end of the link, but it still sucks up link juice.

So now, on that page with 4 links and 1 no-follow link, 1/5 of the link juice goes through each of the 4 regular links and 1/5 is just lost.

Moral of story: Don't use no-follow links.

However, I personally found that the free "SimpleTag plugin- Related Post feature" and "Yet Another Related Post" plugin are able to do internal linking structure automatically for you too.

Thanks eshapard.
I appreciate the time taken in formulating your answer. With the traffic levels that my blogs receive, the question of “follow” or “nofollow” is probably trivial but I am trying to do the best with what I've got and for some key words our Google ranking is pretty good. I believe that WordPress give a "nofollow" to Comments so does that mean that my link juice is lost there as well?
It seems to me that the longer I am in this business the less I know!

Yes, link juice is lost because of your no-follow comment links. IMHO, you might as well convert them to follow links with the dofollow plugin.

You'll still lose link juice, but now it will go to your commenter's links. This will attract more people who will comment. It will also attract more spam comments.

Use a good anti-spam plugin such as askimet, or anti-spam bee and you'll be getting more comments and cutting down on spam. You may even get backlinks to your site from people linking to their own comments for seo purposes.

Thanks eshapard, your observations are much appreciated. I always thought that no-follow was in some sort of grey area anyway.

You'll never get a decent silo from a plugin, considering the rest of the clutter/links on a typical WP theme page.
