Hi Guys, This is a question i`ve wanted to ask you guys advice on for a while... I have a small adsense site nothing special but it ranks in the serps in the top 5 on page 1 for the keyword `squat racks` i haven`t touched this site in ages but it still gets a few clicks each day, this site does have the exact match domian `squatracks.org`. What i want to do is start to rank for the keyword `squat rack` and not `squat racks` just lose the `s` because this has loads more searches, Now i know this many sound like a stupid question but if you guys waanted to do this would you just go to the page and optimize the page for `squat rack` instead of `squat racks` this would just mean deleteing the `s` every where i have squat racks in text. Is this what you guys do ? Is this how i would optimize other pages and sites of mind that are less obvious than just losing just the `s` off the nd of the keyword could i say have a page optimize for `why buy blue widgets` and its ranking for the long tail keyword. But i decide i want to go after a more competitive keyword `where to buy blue widgets` would i just go to the page and change the keyword text to read `where to buy blue widgets` and backlink using that as anchor text ? cheers Jim |

Just focus on getting backlinks with the anchor text squat rack. If your content is good as it is, I recommend not changing it or altering it to better fit the singular keyword. Backlinks are the key.Cheers, Josip |

Create an another page for your preferred keyword and optimist it with the keyword.Just get some back links for it and it would move to top. Google sees that you are ranking for a relative term it gives you authority. |

I regularly optimize for both the singular and plural forms and all I do is get backlinks for both keywords. For example, I might build 50 backlinks for "squat rack" and 50 more for "squat racks." I might also see if combining the two keywords in "squatrack" or "squatracks" would be of any benefit and if so, I would build links for those keywords too. (Before someone asks, the number "50" is just an example. I might actually build only 3 links, or I might build 500+, it depends on how many I need to reach the place I want to be.) Don't be surprised if your ranking bounces around a bit for both keywords when you do this. |
