How I accurately determine where I rank with google (great for newbies)

I see people that struggle figuring out where they rank with google due to them tracking our history. I just recently couldn't get an accurate ranking for a keyword I'm working on no matter how many times I clear my history. Here is what I use to get an accurate ranking: www.hidemyass.com. Just type google.com in and then search away. It works for me and I thought it may be helpful to others.

I use this too, and it seems to work okay. There are other proxies in their network that you can use to get an even more balanced picture.

Can you not just sign out of any google accounts you have open? I thought that worked, or does G still store your browsing history?

I use Market Samurai to check my ranking, which seems to do it accurately whether I'm signed in on my browser or not.

Just thought I'd say that results when using a proxy are the same for me when I turn personalisation off and I am not logged in.

Turning off the personalization does work to a very good extent. But as the current scenario is changing so is Google's search algorithms and that could also be a reason that we are not able to know the exact ranking. Thought, there are plenty of things involved so turning off the personalization and switching on to Google would be a very good thing.

To clarify - I use it not only to bypass "personalization", but to check the true results of my international sites on Google.com (or their target countries SERPs) rather than my local version of Google (.co.uk).

You have to be a bit careful with Hidemyass.com as sometimes they will use a UK proxy so you go to UK Google...not sure if that happens in reverse for the UK being shown US Google. I think they rotate their proxies.
