checklist before opening seo shop

I am thinking about knocking on doors to start getting some website construction and seo work. I was hoping I could get suggestions to build a checklist of what I should have in place before I do that. I'll be aiming at lower budget, smaller businesses initially.

If your budget is lower - better start with a website on wordpress platform. So that you can avoid the development costs and at the same time its highly customizable too..! Wp sites are kinda easy to optimize. Be active on webmaster forums and collect various details about search engine optimization if you are going to do it yourself.

Wordpress with many different plugins is best cheap bet. Once you start making some revenue invest it into more pro services.

Wordpress is easy to use and has a bunch of customizable features so that might be exactly what you're looking for.

If you know a little about web design (HTML/XHTML/CSS), building a website from scratch isn't that expensive. All up to you I guess.

I have built a few websites for myself. I'm just wondering what additional issues I might run into when offering to build them for others. Obviously need business cards and some drop off literature, but what else?
