I'm wondering if there are any authoritative views on what's better, all else being equal, in domain name / URL selection. For instance, if the search phrase is "dog training" and dogtraining.com is taken, would trainingdog.com be almost as good, or would something like top-dog-training.com be better to stick with the correct sequence? Would dogtraining.net be better than dog-training.com? What about for singular vs plural? If the natural search phrase was always plural (training dogs), but you could get the singular exact match (trainingdog.com)? Insights are appreciated! |

Selecting the exact keyword as domain name may help you in terms of search engine optimization. Even that also not that sure. But I'm 100% sure that you cannot ever brand it as a business name!

To answer the OP. If you are looking for the exact match domain benefit it has to be the exact match. So in your example. trainingdog.com would not be beneficial towards the keyword dog training. And in my experience a hyphen negates the benefits of exact match as well. Along with adding an extra word. In all of those cases if the domain is taken, you'd be better off going for something brandable. About the singular and plural. I've had great results registering a plural domain of a singular keyword. For example, one site I built a long time ago was for the keyword Red Microwave. I got the domain red microwaves and I ranked well for both red microwave and red microwaves. So singular version is a good idea IMO. | |

Thanks for your input. I'm not worried about any current or future branding aspect, as these would be self contained content sites optimized to get organic traffic, designed to funnel visitors to cpa/affiliate offers. |

Selection of domain name should be given adequate time since that is the background of your online business i mean the foundation.Always remember that if the foundation could be faulty, what can the righteous do.Once a domain name has been taken, think for another better words that could give you good SEO.
