Help on the 1/10 Bridge Page

Hey Guys,

I've been dealing with Google for 6 years as an affiliate and they just keep tightening the noose on affiliates it seems. I'll start by saying I do want to comply and play by the rules, but I'm sure as most of you know, AdWords gives little transparency.

I'm looking to save this domain. (I know I know, it's tough, but I want to play by the rules) I had this site running for about 3 years just fine until it got shut off a few months ago due to bridge page violations. Of course I disagree with this assessment, but my opinion doesn't matter . I went back and forth with support to no avail.

I'm having someone develop a new design for me with a CMS and maybe some kind of membership to furthur enhance the site. Of course my main goal is to sell my affiliate programs' products which is allowed by G. I just have to figure out how to do that w/o it being a bridge. (Kinda tough to do it seems since all affiliates eventually want the traffic to the merchant's site to get paid!)

I was hoping some of you might look at my site and help me with suggestions. As you will see, it is an affiliate site, but it is not thin and I think provides unique content. Anyway, please have a look at let me know what comes to mind. All of my AdWords traffic comes from author oriented pages such as the one I'll post. I only have a couple of thoughts. I hope others reply because I'm having a similar problem myself, with Google no longer running my ads for my affiliate site.

1. You could add more links that go to places other than your affiliate site. These could be non-commercial places, like private, individual readers' blogs. Some might even notice they're getting a link from you, and link back.

2. You could state somewhere that your site makes commission on book club purchases. (State that you use your commissions for things like hosting and maintaining your site.)

That's all I've learned, from doing my own research. I am also thinking about adding a forum, which is similar to your membership idea.

One problem is that has nothing to do with your QS problem is that when adding a book to my cart from your site, I see no obvious way to check out. I find it cool you have a list of books I added in my cart. But how to I exit and pay for it? This surely cuts down on your conversions.

The site is also a bit hard to get around. You have for example author books links at the bottom. If I click on any of them, I get a list but no way to order them. I'm forced to join one of the clubs it seems and start the process over again. I think that is your intention but I simply want to buy a specific book and I want to do it in as few clicks as possible.

The real problem with your QS of 1 is that if I click on a book link, I'm taken to your affiliate's site. That's what Google has an issue with (one of them anyway). I don't want to see a description of the book from your affiliate (if I notice it was a different site) when you have one yourself.

You need to make it more transparent. You cannot sell to me and then when I want to buy, show me the affiliate's sales page. Your Join Now button has to go to the affiliate's order page, not another sales page.

I also used your search. This showed me ads (Adsense) and that could also contribute to your poor landing page quality score.

with the bride page maybe look at brining your people in on information pages only, and focus on the content and the visitor interaction, that could be as little as blog comments rather than a full blown forum per say, or things like polls or survey type things ?

from those pages put some read more links to your pages with your affiliate links, or maybe one highly focused link at the top of the right. you may even use the term sponsored link or advertisement for that link.

it is hard with no clearly defined black and white guide lines but mostly pages with multiple affiliate links piling of the page, seem to be slammed with the bridge rule

rave on but just quickly lets say i had a page full of content, and it was all good stuff then i placed a adsense block in the top right for 3 ads, would that page / could that page then be deemed a bridge page ?

i doubt it because the ad / sponsored link is a separate identity to the content and is clearly seen as that, so if your ads were to resemble that layout it would be a tough call in tinsel town to call, one way then another.

what is even funnier is this text comes from a g rep in regards fixing a bridge page and gives this example

promoting a specific book could have links to four on line bookshops from
which one could purchase the book.

from what i see is that is what you have so you may want to seek some clarification on that as to exactly what the problem is, as that information smacks what you have in the face ?

2 rules maybe, ? one for some one for others ? no wonder people are confused

if you read that closely it says to offer multiple links for the one product maybe that might be the answer, it would be nice to have some black and white.

Poor comparison shopping or travel sites whose primary purpose is to send users to other shopping/travel comparison sites, rather than to provide useful content or additional search functionality.
