Default Excel Spreadsheet for SEO - Anyone Have One?

I'm about to start working on a website for a company, and I'd like to document my daily & monthly SEO efforts... is anyone using a spreadsheet for such a task?

While I'll certainly create one if necessary, my Excel expertise is limited to simple tasks, and I'm a big believer in not re-inventing the wheel.

I want to document backlinks, articles submitted, posts & pages, Wordpress, theme & plugin updates, the sort of stuff that everyone routinely does for their own sites...

Anyone have such a beast?

You might find Download free SEO Templates and Worksheets | Gravity Search Marketing useful. I highly recommend investing in the book too.

Yes, but what often happens is many people see things different when working in excel, and it is harder than one thinks to code, so making variations to meet every persons needs are hard, given that.

I am currently working on this puppy and i will bookmark this post and add it here when i have finished if you others would like it ( but i will need a few more weeks on it )

what i have done is married market Samaria with excel to do what you are saying in this format (that may change) I have called it market map.

first it lets you add your keywords to the excel
it will then let you group those keys into groups similar as to what adwords would group keys

(that is because the system is being built for both adwords and or normal / non paid traffic / any combinations of the above)

it then will let you structure your keywords into a logical order per say, call it category / sub category other use fancy names like niche and micro niche, but i am an ol timer

from there it lets you group keys into the same meaning inside of those sections for example

to be alpha male / how to be alpha male

would sit as on word per say with a variant as the option

next i will have this draft a site plan for your site based on structure required

some call it them key / related keys and yes i see it as a book / title / category sub cat ? no real stress there

this will allow for single products/ multiple products/ promote on site / many sites dependent on what you want with as many types and out outcomes.

now this is a little trial and error right now as it is very tricky to cover every angle but we must start some where

this will then give a base structure based on building a solid adwords campaign that will float very strong q scores ( the plan based on what i know )

in essence you use a 7 digit code

01
02
03 etc is used to identify a site

0101 or the next two numbers identify a chapter and the next

0101004 the last 3 identify sub chapters / niches / whatever you call them.

from that structure most sites can be built for example a level one site, is you basic clickbank site it has categories and a home page / land page

a level 2 site has your home page and some categories a bit like ms where they propose a theme key and some sub keys

and a level 3 site can be as huge as it wants to be, there is a lot more depth to that but not war n peace time here, just that you should be able to take any site and repair it properly or create a new site / then down grade or upgrade it at any time to meet any changes required

/\ that part already working on for adwords anyway.

\/ now the new fun thing with ms is this

once the keys have been sorted you copy n paste them into ms and run your whatever it is you want, i am then setting it that you just export the competition pages for those keys. you do not analyze them at all

the system will then go into the saved csv files and pull each one and then based on a points system awarded the current competition give two score, one on an expected position you can achieve for that key, and second by adding each of those top 10 key scores you can give a strength value

this will pop put beside the keyword in your list.

next it will also include several other bits of info from ms, such as the seot, the seov, and i suppose what ever else you want.

now all of that data will populate in nano seconds once uploaded and second you would be able to update it as you go. / refresh any part as you want

next is ( for me in trial ) is i sort it from easiest to rank, page strength, to seot , to seov

along side of that i then have columns to check of such as all on page options, key in title, in header, in description, alt tags, images > and all options, then you can start with offline stuff like twitter face book, articles, it will be open to add as many options as you like. / map those keys

ow each time you add / use a key in any area i add one to the existing number not a tick, this now gives me a count of the number of times used.

this totals to the beginning so lets say i have used a key 3 times it will have the 3 as the first number in my columns before page position etc

then when sorting i sort from lowest to highest, this then auto sets the next keys i should be working on, keeping everything in balance.

next steps are i will bring in the ms tracker a an export and allow the system to update that in real time as well, so lets say i have a setting where i want to reach top 10 / if that happens it will turn that key of an allow me to work on the remaining keys.

this would monitor and turn back on if it fell out.

we then take that and then allow it to merge with as many websites as you like / in a central file, it could be many hundreds of sites if one wanted to and you could then open it p and know exactly what site needed the next amount of work and exactly where it needed work.

and all of that is because of adwords in that these will work together or separate of that, so you can have adwords pumping in as well at the start if you wish, or just fly low ball on the web

now if only i get the time to finish building and checking it, but when i do i will drop you a copy / pm

where is that spare 5 minutes and thats the short version of what i do with some spare time.

• - just chillin.

Sounds like your project is more ambitious than what I'm looking for - but I'd be willing to bet that it would be exactly what others are looking for! I'll keep my eye on this thread in case you can finish such a project!
